AIBU?

AIBU to think FOD should be able to tell his kid apart?

(FOD = father of daughters, on Instagram)

Does anyone else find it weird that FOD can’t tell which of his twin daughters is which?

I get that they’re identical (and they really are visibly so) but he’s their dad!

I used to babysit identical twin girls when they were between the ages of 14 months and 2, and within a month I could reliably tell them apart. It was partly down to incredibly subtle variations in their appearance (e.g. the way their hair fell), but mostly it was their personalities. They were very obviously two different people.

Maybe FOD’s twins are also identical in their personalities and that’s why it’s so hard, or maybe he’s just joking about it for the sake of being funny on Instagram. But I must admit I find it weird if it’s something he can’t reliably do, especially as he’s clearly a hands on dad!

I’m sure he’s well able to tell his kids apart. Everything he posts is planned, staged and rehearsed. There’s nothing spontaneous about any of his posts, it’s not reality.

Saturday’s gem was him trying to look at rugby on tv but being interrupted by his little daughter saying ‘Daddy, you’re my best friend’.

As if that he just had his phone out recording his daughter on the off-chance that she’d come out with some gem while he was desperately trying to watch the rugby.

Yesterday’s was him carrying his daughter in a metal shopping basket, hardly safe or comfortable but who cares, he was trying to entertain us all. And then staged another daughter hiding between racks of rugs and another curled up on a pet bed. I’m sure the staff and other customers thought he was a delight or more accurately a total prat.

Never heard of him but he sounds insufferable

Yes exactly what redpanda said.

My DH cannot tell the difference between our two non twins when they were babies. I purposely change the photos to black and white so he can’t tell by the colour of the clothes and make him guess

Of course he can tell the difference. His whole 'hilarious' blog is staged and faked. Can't stand all these wannabe parent bloggers, they make my toes curl.

I can even tell identical twins apart on TV. The Van Tullekens, before Xand grew that beard, both DD and I could hear a difference in their voices. Chris sounds younger, if that makes sense.

TBF I struggle to tell my DD and DS apart on some baby photos Blush

We have 3 dc - all different ages, but incredibly alike - my dh struggles with baby pictures and has to check with me who is who. To be fair, he will say 'is that dc1?' and usually he is right, but not always!

I'm sure he knows, he's just playing it for laughs. I used to like him, but unfortunately - like many decent people in the public eye who suddenly find themselves popular - he's become a caricature of his actual self. Started believing his own hype, so to speak.

Everything DillyDilly said.

When I saw the pet shop hide and seek post I couldn’t help but think of a mumsnetter witnessing it and complaining about it on AIBU 😂

I was at school with 2 identical twin girls and they had to wear different coloured cardigans so they teacher they saw everyday could tell them apart.

If you put photos of me & my sister as babies in front of my mum she often struggles to know which is which, and we aren’t even twins!

I have 3 dc, and my 2 boys baby pics some even I can’t tell 100% always

I think sometimes it’s easily done to have a delay is your memory working

He has done that ridiculous arsing about in Sainsburys as well.

It's the kind of thing that wouldn't be seen as funny at all if it weren't a naice middle class family doing it.

Plus the filming your kids having a tantrum in public for your nearly 1 million Insta followers, rather than actually trying to sort them out.

We have 3DDs and DH often can't tell which one it is in the baby photos!

Also there was an incident when youngest DD was 5 and there was a little girl in her class who did look very similar to her. One day a photographer from the local paper came into the class because of a special event and the photo which appeared in the next edition featured this other little girl. I left it out for DH to see and his comment was "What a lovely picture of DD!"

He has never lived it down....

PinkHeart5914 You have reminded me that when I was in my first teaching job there were triplets who all had to be coloured coded because everyone mixed them up!

YAB massively U to allow yourself to believe that he can’t tell them apart!!

His posts are so contrived and insufferable. I’ve had to stop looking at them as I started to get annoyed by his kids. I’m sure they are actually really lovely wee things, but they just come across a precocious Shirley temple types as a result of his drivel...

@PhilomenaButterfly the Van Tullekens taught me anatomy in my first year of medical school, as part of a group of around 10 "demonstrators" in the dissection lab. Took us several sessions to realise there were two of them!

I'm sure he can, but everything he (and his wife) post on instagram is premeditated and overly attention seeking. I don't follow either of them, but they kept coming up on my 'suggested' so I peeked at their profiles, and quickly realised they would not be people I wanted to know anything about!

I actually quite like them. Some things are a bit annoying. But she seems great at her job and she is very open about talking about women's bodies which is great since she has such a big following.

He obviously knows his kids apart by the way.

His captions are annoying and go on forever. Also hate the fake confused/annoyed selfie face. Kids are cute though!

I don’t think it’s the same as not being able to tell baby photos apart! He’s saying he can’t tell which of his kids is which when they’re standing in front of him!

I totally accept the point though that it’s probably all staged / contrived. Most of his stuff seems to be. It’s very different to MOD, who I like - she’s much more natural and unaffected imo.

Not to mention they can both talk and say their names?!

He needs good wash and a hair cut. He's incredibly annoying, all the incessant metaphors and #isn'tthisjustthemostspontaneousthingever posts. I really don't understand why he has such a following.
