'We've run out of food' - said McDonald's. WTAF?! (First world problem,light hearted!)

Yesterday,I had a voucher from a newspaper for a Big Mac and medium fries for £1.99,so decided to treat myself on my way home from meeting up with my DD. As I approached the shop,I noticed that it was in darkness,but with people still inside sitting at tables,eating,and staff behind the counter. I went in and asked a passing member of staff what was happening. She said 'We're just about to close because we've run out of food'. Is this actually possible?! Has anyone else ever had this?

Yep! I regularly see on our local Facebook page that our local KFC runs out of chicken on a regular basis!
I'm always like what??
I don't eat there myself, but it still, seems weird to me that it's happened frequently!

My local petrol station has run out of a particular type of petrol on more than one occasion. Unfortunately, they don't bother to inform people of this until they stop their cars at the bowser and can see the small 'out of petrol' tag on the hose. idiots.

It's a train...why can't they just stick another carriage on to it?

Papergirl some engines can only take certain weights, some stations can only accommodate certain lengths of train, adding a carriage changes max speeds, braking times, etc. Plus you have to source the carriage and then it’s in the wrong place for its next journey.

It’s a logistical nightmare to ‘just stick another carriage onto it’ and generally it’s not financially sound to do so.

I guess it’s better than having too much and having to Chuck food away but I guess most of McDonald’s food is frozen anyway so they should be able to keep a high stock level. I don’t think it happens often, I get more pissed off that I can never get a milkshake as the machine is always broken.

The McDs near my work regularly runs out of beaten eggs for the omelette in the bagels, or the bagels themselves.

I do not like the whole eggs they put in the muffins and they 'can't' use these eggs to make an omelette either. The time I asked for my omelette to go in a muffin instead of the bagels they did not have, they wouldn't do this because muffins are only for the weird rubbery poach/fried egg hybrid things and not omelettes.

Petrol station near us never has any diesel, it was a pain when we had diesel cars, but no longer a problem as we both now have petrol.

I volunteer with a homeless charity/meal kitchen which is donated unsold food by a local chain restaurant. Their stock control is abysmal - so with alarming regularity, volunteers are asked to "please take as much as you want otherwise we have to bin it" from the overflowing freezers!

I know the bread is pretty rubbishy but everything else is decent quality and probably better than most independent takeaways at a similar price point. As long as it's only an occasional part of anyone's diet - no-one on this thread have said they eat there often, it's never going to ruin anyone's health.

BarbaraofSevillle They’re not omelettes. We do two types of eggs at McDonalds: round and folded. The round eggs go in the muffins, the folded eggs go in bagels and wraps.

If you prefer the folded egg and want a muffin they should allow you to swap.

When you say “beaten eggs” and “omelettes” you’re deacribing the same item: folded egg as mention above. If they’ve run out of the folded egg it means they’re run out of the liquid egg to make it.

It is extremely easy to run out of the actual bagels themselves. We get our breakfast stock out the freezer the day before because they take hours to temper, and we go off batch cooking charts and e-production, which is based off projected sales, in order to know how many to get out.

If we are over projection for that day for whatever reason, we may run out of a particular item, and though we have loads in the freezer, they have a five hour tempering time and cannot just be got out and used straight away.

No, we cannot use the method of round eggs to make folded eggs. Round eggs are made from cracking eggs, folded eggs are from liquid egg.

They should have allowed you to have a folded egg in a muffin. I have done it on request for customers who prefer the folded egg a few times.

We make up our own salads for each day in the morning. Again, we go off batch cooking charts and chill the number it estimates we need. If we go overprojection for salads and it is extremely busy, we cannot just male another there and then, but we will make a few more up during a quieter period.

Nope. We use the best of the best; all our products are exceptionally high quality because we are the market leader.

Bear in mind they (some KFC franchises anyway) rely on their suppliers who are, let's say, 'less than effective'. Hence why when all the KFC franchises changed suppliers a while back it all went tits up because the new suppliers were woefully unprepared! So it's not necessarily the store's fault.
