to think that Eddie Izzard is

just another rich person trying to persuade poor people to give their hard earned money to other poor people? I've just seen him on one of these tv ads guilt tripping people into donating to a worthy cause. Whilst I can understand and sympathise with the people who need money, I can't help but think it would be better if the said Eddie Izzard put his hand in his own pocket first. rather than flouncing around in full make up and nail varnish trying to be a politician

I know - I'm totally U, aren't I?

I’m not fan of Eddie Izzard but how do you know that he doesn’t?

Do you know that he doesn't? Is he really specifically targeting poor people to donate? That's odd.

Yep. He has had a spectacular fall from grace. And looking back on his stand up with a more worldly eye at 40 I feel he was always overrated and a bit of a nob.
He has become a caricature of himself like so many narcissists do. I actually lol at pictures of him now.

I can't take Eddie Izzard Seriously he looks like shirley from Eastenders Grin google it you won't unsee it.

I hate these adverts but I guess celebs fronting them make people take notice and maybe donate. The sad faced Olivia Coleman gets right on my wick

I have a soft spot for him. OP, how do you know he doesn't make frequent hefty charity donations?

He's an abusive man

This is the person who ran something like 24 back to back marathons for charity isn't it?

I'm not their biggest fan but I don't think you can really accuse them of not doing their bit?

I think celebrities are sort of damned of they do and damned of they don't when it comes to charitable contributions. If they donate anonymously, they're criticized for not contributing. If they donate publicly, people say they're just doing it for the publicity. They can't win either way. 🤷

That was ill advised his marathons and he nearly exploded his kidneys not the smartest move really

steff you are right but those adverts are bloody annoying though.

I'm sure if he had made big donations, we would have heard about it! He's keen for all the publicity he can get!

In terms of charity he ran 24 marathons in I think 24/5 days to raise money for charity.

He's done other marathons for charity too i think.

I Can't comment on some of the other things people have mentioned as I haven't heard anything about them.

Izzard raised over £1million for charity with his marathon running - I haven't a clue whether he donates personally or how much of a knob he is, but you can't say he doesn't put in huge amounts of effort. I'm glad he uses his platform for this stuff, however much you might think it's all an attention-seeking stunt - at least he's genuinely doing good.

Any reason why you're singling out Eddie Izzard OP? Plenty of other celebrities do these ads, many who do sod all for charity and avoid paying taxes too.

I'm in the US; I haven't actually seen them. 😳

Exactly the point I was making above. Unless you're his accountant, you can't be sure of what he's done or not done.

Eddie Izzard is a GIGANTACUNT for some many reasons but I don’t think I can knock him for charitable works.

Eddie Izzard put his hand in his own pocket first.

Izzard annoys me for several reasons however...Izzard is a very generous contributor to several organisations of which I'm aware and a is a very involved trustee for the causes in which he has personal involvement.

Singlenotsingle I don't live in the UK but I'd read about his 24 marathons in 24 days plus other marathons where he's raised loads of money for various charities.

I think your thread is a bit pathetic to be honest boldly stating that he hasn't donated money to the charities he's advertising. A quick google would have given you more info and not made you look like a Daily Mail reader/twat.

Out of interest, how many marathons have you run to raise money for charity?

I am sure lots of celebrities give and do a lot for charity. But it always makes me uncomfortable when somebody who is clearly considerably richer than most of the people they're appealing to asks for donations to whatever charity they're promoting.

That's probably unfair of me, I realise.
