AIBU?

To hope Mnetters have "Reading and Comprehension" skills????

No facetiousness intended, simply a result of noticing a keeness to "attack" someone after ascribing entirely mis-placed 'labels' to them. This has been invariably after (perhaps deliberately) mis-reading posts made by them and then running away with themsleves on a tirade of bad language and general abuse, nothing to do with ANY level of debate.

It often manifests with posters apparently thinking"well if you think A, then you must think B" to themslves. It happened quite alot on the "bombings" thread over the weekend, to me specifically on a different thread, and have just seen it again elsewhere.

This IS a 'written word' forum, so I don't think it unreasonable to expect reading and comprehension skills to be absent.

Please read posts for what they say. NOT what you wish them to say.

I thank ewe.

it's NOT lack of intelligence...teaser..it's a desire to get all pointy-fingered, I think,..something like that anyway.

Well, I've read your post and I have f-all comprehension about what you're trying to say.

But one problem with a "written forum" is that writing is easy to misunderstand without the tone of voice etc that goes with the spoken word.

I think that some subjects inflame some folk so passionately that they don't think clearly.
I also think that some posters are in a bad mood and post accordingly.
And some are in a hurry and don't read the OP or subsequent posts.

Hurray!!!

Ok - it's the habit of not reading posts properly, and then replying, often in an aggressive way, to the poster over something they DIDN'T say.

You an't expect anythinga nd none of us have a right to- that's the point of an open forum. We must assume a variety of poeple, and indeed we all will misread or misconstrue posts on occasion. And then we should exercise and demonstrate tolerance.

I know what you mean Pan. A lot of it is as a result of skim reading rather than reading properly.

I tend to think, when you feel this way, it's time to step away from the computer iyswim. Get some fresh air, have a cup of tea and a dose of reality!

pointing out spellings is childish pedantry used only when one has no argument

Should have known you'd be here rabbit, Spelling and Grammar Warden, making sure there are no errors on the comprehension and reading skills thread.

Yes, pointing out spelling mistakes in posts and the old faithful "oooh ill get popcorn, cakes and the wine" when it kicks off instead of having a cracking debate are fast becoming my MN bugbears.

Those and chicken shit name changers
