to get annoyed at school open evening

my ds1 is in yr 5 and will be going to comp in 2008 so we are starting to look at local schools.
Our catchment school hasn't got a very good reputation especially in the last few years and recently had problems including staff strikes. Also it was inspected in November/ December last year and it wasnt very good. In fact it was placed in special measures.
Fast forward to this week.
We -the prospective parents havent had much feedback on what if any improvements are being made so I was looking forward to the open evening to get an update.
Information wasn't very forthcoming - the head teacher skimmed over it as if it hadn't happened. We went into the Geography department and teacher says "Im the head of Goegraphy History and Humanities, but I dont want to talk about school and subjects I want to tell you all about my best experience at this school .......our ski trip to Canada last year, let me show you all the DVD."

Obvioulsy all the kids in the room's eyes went like saucers and it was fairly obvious how exciting they all found the prospect of a trip to Canada.

I personally was p**ed off having given up my evening to find out about this school, and If I had wanted to watch holiday movies I could have stayed at home.

Am I being unreasonable to get annoyed at this as a way of getting kids to want to come to this school.

I find it strange that a school in special measures isn't falling over itself to convince you that theirs is a school that you should send your child too.

I chose to work in a school that was in sepcial measures -there should be an action plan in place detailing what is being done to adress the issues raised, I'm not sure if this is available for parents to see but you could ask.
Can you make an app with the head (I don't know secondaries I'm primary) to discuss your concerns?

What does the primary school that your children are at think?

What did other parents think of the evening?
