AIBU?

Is £32 too expensive...

...for Shellac nails?

I only get them done once a month but I've just noticed the price has gone up from £30 to £32. I know it's only a couple of quid but it's just taken me out of my justifiable price bracket.

I'm fairly low maintenance in other beauty areas. Don't dye my hair, wear fairly inexpensive make up, but love the 'polishedness' of having my nails done.

So if you have your nails done, how much do you pay? And would £32 (with a complementary glass of fizz) be too much for you?

I get them shellac'd every few weeks, probably should have it done every 2 weeks. My nails are brittle wee fuckers and break whenever I look at them, even with shellac. £32 wouldn't be too much for me.

If you can't afford it though, look for a cheaper shop? The shops round my bit start off at about £25. Maybe it's the complimentary glass of bubbly that's responsible for the price being quite high?

If it's the one luxury you indulge in it would be a shame to give it up. Shop around though, every salon does shellac now.

Depends, where are you and does it include the nail work and removal? I'm in Scotland and wouldn't pay more than £25. I recently bought a kit and do my own though now as it was getting so expensive.

I have gel nails done every three weeks and they cost £30 but my brilliant nail lady comes to me and I make her tea so not really comparable!

Yep, includes all nail work and removal. Lovely salon, lovely girls, no issue with possible illegal immigrants but I may have a look at other places and see what the quality is like.

Like you say, as my only indulgence I'd hate to give it up.

That’s expensive for me - i have invested in a uv lamp and gel nail polishes (with the special undercoat and top coat) as I have 3 girls and we all like to have our nails done. Before I would pay £15-£20 but that was mobile beauticians so less overheads. If you enjoy the time away from home, the chat and glass of bubble then I can see why it’s justifiable though.

I pay £15

That's roughly what I pay, and I'm fine with it if you can afford it.

There are other places near me that do it for £20, but the staff don't speak English, they use that electric file thing that fucks your nails, and there's no fizz. So I'm happy to pay the extra.

I pay £10 for someone who does it at home . She has all the set etc and does a fab job .

Most salons round here charge around £20. The dodgy ones about £12. I’ve only seen £30+ in spas and wondered why on earth anyone would pay that much. But it’s your money, if you like the salon and they can be relied on to do a good job it’s probably worth it.

I have an acrylic base with a gel colour which costs £25 plus a couple of quid tip. Absolutely no champagne on offer. Grin

I get my shellac nails done every other week and pay £25, in Newcastle.

Sounds like the complimentary glass of fizz is definitely factored into the price...

I pay £15 and I have my nails done every 4 weeks. My young lady has been doing my nails for about 5 years. She is in the same salon as my hairdresser (her mum).
It usually goes up £1 in march.

That seems quite expensive imo, depends where you are though. I pay £22 for removal and shellac

It depends, if you’re Victoria Beckham £32 is bugger all. If you’re a single mum and living on state benefits £32 is a weeks shopping, it’s too much.

Only you know if it’s too much.

I have gel nails every fortnight (my nails grow ridiculously quickly!) and my salon charges £22 including soak off.

Local salon charges £32 but I see a lovely lady at her home who charges £17. At her rates I get them done every 2-3 weeks but I couldn't afford that if I went to the salon.

I paid £20 and that was including removal. My nails grow super quick with shellac so i was going every 2.5 weeks. Ive just bought the kit to do it myself as £20 that often was too much.

£18 includes a cup of tea Grin (keep your fizz). Doesn’t include removal I don’t think. (I’ve usually used my teeth to get them off before then).

I don't have a shellac manicure but do have shellac on my toes during the summer. I pay around £25 which includes it being removed. I might hesitate at £32 if I am honest, even though I am fairly low maintenance when it comes to beauty treatments ( straightforward cut and blow dry, no colour etc etc).

Mine are £20 and includes a little glass of something. I’ve been going to the same girl for a long time but her salon is in her house so I imagine she’d charge closer to £30 if she had to rent a room/salon somewhere. It’s fine if you can afford it!
