Why haven't I lost any weight ? I've been so good.

Since Christmas I've hardly had a drink, no snacks, been to yoga and pilates, or walked every day (and walked to work every day 4 miles return).

I've eaten loads of veg and cut down on carbs.

No Christmas choc, no left over Baileys....

"Wails to the sky!"

Just keep on and you will. I am another one who has to wait ages until the scales start to go the right way but I always do lose in the end - just have to be patient!

Cherries101 · 17/01/2019 14:49

When you start walking loads all of a sudden it causes slight inflammation and you end up gaining a lot of water weight. It’ll fade in a couple of months.

Honeyroar · 17/01/2019 14:50

What kind of things HAVE you been eating? I wonder if you've mistakenly eaten something with high calories that you thought was healthy? If you really have been good it will come off sooner or later.

Shaboohshoobah1 · 17/01/2019 14:50

Cherries - where is the evidence for that? Sounds like totally bollocks!

ErickBroch · 17/01/2019 14:50

Honeyroar is right - this is unusual if you've been doing it for nearly one month. If not, I would go to your GP for a thyroid check

Timeforabiscuit · 17/01/2019 14:50

Same boat here,it used to be a week and id shift weight, then 2 weeks before the scales caught up - now closer to a month Sad

The only thing is to stick with it on a far longer term, eat less (and better) and move.

Best thing I did was to stop eating after my evening meal - ive stopped drinking alcohol.

Its a good thing that chocolate tastes like rubbish now at least!

Timeforabiscuit · 17/01/2019 14:53

Oh yes - I have a bone to pick with nuts especially! Mineral content "yay!", Fat content - "fuck me im eating lard!"

Pachyderm1 · 17/01/2019 14:53

Are you calorie counting? It is scarily easy to go over!

ginpink · 17/01/2019 14:55

I would suggest counting calories in everything and regularly weighing yourself. It's very hard to loose those first lbs xx

JennyOnAPlate · 17/01/2019 14:56

I would start counting calories and see if you're eating more than you think you are. Apps like MyFitnessPal are good for logging your food and drinks.

Calzone · 17/01/2019 14:57

Water
Drink more water 💦

Meltedicicle · 17/01/2019 14:59

What worked for me was portion control, doing a mainly vegan diet and doing a ‘7 minute workout woman’ app 3 times a week (free app). I do yoga too but didn’t find it was good enough for weight loss on its own.

Aquamarine1029 · 17/01/2019 15:03

I would bet you are still consuming far too many calories than your body needs.

homeishere · 17/01/2019 15:03

Portion size, calorie content of what you’re eating.

Track it all. Use an app like ‘Lose It!’ I lost 6 stone using that app, but you have to be accurate. Weigh breakfast cereals, measure out the butter and jam for your toast etc. Otherwise you’ll be consuming uncounted calories and that will mean you won’t lose weight. It starts out being a bit of a pain, but you’ll notice 1/2 pounds off by the third day (if you’ve done it right!) and that gives you the impetus to continue.

As a rough guide, as an average woman, you’ll be looking to consume a maximum of about 1800 calories a day in order to lose weight. And you shouldn’t be eating/drinking anything other than water after 8:30pm.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 17/01/2019 15:05

Apparently the unhealthy hidden fat gets used first so don’t give up - you might have been losing that plus making extra muscles in response to the walking. It’s been less than three weeks so hopefully will see more results soon.

ApolloandDaphne · 17/01/2019 15:05

What are you eating? Can you post what you ate over the past few days?

Spidey66 · 17/01/2019 15:08

Never heard such nonsense in my life.

KatharinaRosalie · 17/01/2019 15:10

What are you eating? Calories matter, even if they come from other foods besides chocolate and baileys.

I'd say though that unless you are doing a lot of weight training this isn't likely to be the issue. You should track everything you eat, MFP is good if a pain in the arse for doing this. You are likely to be consuming too many calories.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 17/01/2019 15:15

Spidey it's not nonsense, it's why your muscles can looked pumped after training - I've noticed it in my arms but a couple of days later they've gone down a bit and I pee a heck of a lot. I don't think walking would do this though, you'd need to be doing weight training.

Breakawaygirl · 17/01/2019 15:17

Keep a food diary. Sometimes we think we are eating healthily but are still eating lots of calories.

How old are you, if you don't mind me asking? Sometimes the weight takes a while to come off, even if you are doing everything right.

Do you do any muscle work? If not incorporate that into your routine.

Petalflowers · 17/01/2019 15:21

I’m the same.

My menu:

Sugar free Alpen (Or supermarket equivalent) - I do have more than sskimming world would recommend, but if I eat less, I get very hungry)

Lunch - sandwich (good day - one slice of bread, bad day, two slices)

Eve - meat plus veg (potatoes -only roast pot at Sunday roast)

Snacks - apples, fruit etc

Wine - weekend, one bottle shared with dh all weekend

Have you been measuring yourself too? I never lose weight to start with but can lose a good couple of inches off my stomach, arms, thighs etc before the weight starts to drop off

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 17/01/2019 15:27

Depends on portion size - Sugar free Alpen is still relatively high in calories if you have a lot of it.

The sandwich - 2 slices of bread can be 250 cals. What are you having in the sandwich - there's a massive difference between say tuna, low cal mayonnaise and salad and cheese, ham and butter.
Again dinner - what meat - chicken breast or sausages? How much oil do you use to cook with. How big is the portion?

What other drinks do you have?

Blobby10 · 17/01/2019 15:28

Petalflowers I'm not a qualified nutritionist or PT but have done a lot of research and have been dieting/studying food intake for years!!! I find that Alpen is very processed and wont keep you full for long - could you do porridge using real oats(not the ones in a pot or ready brek) or try greek yoghurt with fruit? Even a couple of weetabix would be better than Alpen.
Sandwich - all well and good but what do you put in it/on it?
Evening meal: how much meat? How much veg>? How do you cook it? Do you add gravy or a sauce to that meal?
Snacks: fruit is fine but I was told that the '5 a day' should be made up of only 2 pieces fruit but 3 portions of veg. Fruit is high in natural sugar - you are better off having citrus fruits and minimal numbers of bananas, apples, grapes etc.

If you really want to lose weight, I have found that calorie counting is the only way to really know what you are eating. It means weighing and measuring everything and is time consuming and boring but with a standard banana at 90 calories, medium apple 80 - it soon adds up. If you have milk in your coffee or tea, thats another 50+ even without sugar!
