To have been frightened in America recently?

DH and I were driving to Las Vegas from Death Valley. Ended up in a town called Parhump (or something similar!). Took a wrong turn and ended up in a trailer park type community. Took another wrong turn and ended up in the middle of this said community. Nobody around other that young people flying around on dirt bikes and golf carts. We then realised that a particular golf cart, been driven by a couple of Mexican looking young lads appeared to be following us. DH turned into a street and it was a dead end street. The golf cart appeared behind us and was hurtling towards us. At this point I assumed we were going to be mugged/carjacked/murdered. DH turned the car as quickly as he could and as we headed back out of the street, the golf cart whizzed past us with those driving it laughing and at us as they went past ... so I’m assuming this was the effect they were hoping for? They were trying to shit us up? We managed to get out of the street and the golf cart followed us until we got back into the main highway. I’ve been to America lots of times and that is the first time I’ve ever felt threatened. DH thinks I over reacted but he was scared too at the time!! Would you have been scared or just assumed it was daft kid’s messing around? They looked late teens
