AIBU?

Tea spoon / coffee spoon

In my house, we drink a lot of hot drinks.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to have one teaspoon to stir tea and a different teaspoon to stir coffee (machine or occasionally instant. I know IABU to drink instant Grin). This is because I don't want coffee essence in my tea or tea essence in my coffee. I can taste it!

DH thinks this is weird and you can't taste the tea / coffee in the other drink. He regularly uses the coffee spoon to stir the tea and I can tell!

Who is BU, me or him?

YANBU

We’re the same. We add in a third spoon for hot chocolate too.

Tea spoon used for coffee is ok for me as coffee drowns out the tea taste (although maybe you have more sensitive taste buds than me!). Coffee spoon for tea is not ok.

Just use a clean spoon every time.

It's a lot easier than divorce.

You need to clarify:

You have spoons especially for coffee or tea that may never be used for the other drink. In which case yabvu.

Or

You don't use a specific spoon to stir bith beverages without washing the spoon first. In which case yanbu.

First - we have a drawer of teaspoons, all the same. There are two spoons on the teabag drainer - one that is for stirring tea and one that is for stirring coffee. You can usually tell which one the coffee spoon is, by the foam / granule dregs on it.

These are the only spoons I have ever found that have a perfect hand feel, so I'm loath to get different ones for tea / coffee.

Washing the spoon might be an idea, but I bet DH wouldn't bother.

Clean spoon every time, then you have no problem. But in answer to your actual question,I wouldn't use the same spoon for stirring tea and coffee (without rinsing in between) as the taste will transfer.

My mil uses the same spoon to make her coffee and my tea, it’s not nice. And I think as she only drinks coffee their mugs taste of coffee.

I feel faint at the thought of a coffee spoon in my tea. But then I would always use a clean spoon.

My grandad has a habit of making tea-coffee hybrids (forgets he’s making tea and puts coffee in too!) so you have my sympathy.

I think a quick rinse would be a good start. Stops the brown stains on the spoons too!

YANBU I won't drink tea that's been polluted by a coffee spoon. Coffee tastes disgusting to me so I can taste straight away if someone sister I'm looking at you uses the coffee spoon to stir my tea.

If I am making both drinks I just rinse the teaspoon between stirring rather than dirty another spoon. I thought everyone did this.

Don’t yuu have different shaped small spoons for stirring coffee anyway?

Dry spoon to put the coffee and sugar into DH's cup. Tea bag in my cup. Milk added to coffee and sugar (tastes better, apparently. I did it once and DH preferred it) then hot water poured into both cups.

Tea bag squished and removed, milk added to tea and stirred. Coffee stirred. Spoon rinsed and dried for next time. We use the same spoon and cups all day. No coffee flavour in my tea, yuck!

Dont let him get away with inadequate hot beverage making. He's trying to do a poor job so you'll make your own. Do it properly or ltb.

One clean spoon per drink, and one clean spoon if you need sugar. It's disgusting otherwise.

Completely agree that different spoons for tea and coffee
Completely disagree to leave spoons out and then identify them by dried on dregs

We have a communal spoon that we wash if someone is having an alternate drink.

We also have a sugar spoon that lives in the sugar. God forbid anybody uses that and shoves it back in. Angry

My OH always leaves a spoon on the side but does rinse it. I think it' clean and put it away and he grumbles where his spoon is.

He also like a special type of sugar cystal that he has to stir and stir and stir to dissolve. It slightly pissed me off the incessant stiring at 4am ish (bed directly above kitchen)

So he now uses a Tommy Tippee training spoon to stir Grin

I use a clean spoon each time but yes, if making one of each I’d use two clean spoons. Quite often run out of spoons for this reason and have to use a fork.
