To want a Dyson Airwrap

My hair is hideously straight. Poker straight. Not-in-a-good-way straight. Just sodding straight.

I have, over the years, spent much money on heated rollers. I've tried blow-drying with a big metal brush. I've tried every effing thing to get a bit of bounce into my stupid straight hair. My current curling device is Remington straighteners - it's fine for about 25 minutes (so long as there isn't a scrap of moisture in the air) but my hair is snapping off at the ends. It's long - or was, until it started snapping off. FML.

I covet the Dyson Airwrap. I could afford it if I gave up eating for several months, and cut back on several other things. But is it worth it?

Would love to hear from someone who’s got one.
16yo wanted one for Christmas, I looked at the price..............😳

They have such mixed reviews that I’ve decided it’s too much money to spend on something that may be no good for me.

I’d like to borrow one for a few days to try first before spending out.

I want one too. I'm waiting for them to come back in stock at QVC so that I can return it if I don't like it. I've spent an absolute fortune on hair gadgets over the years that I'm useless at using.

IMO, it's great for thick curly hair. My DIL has one. She uses it for her curly hair. It looks fabulous. I have poker straight hair and it made no difference. Sorry.

Panama, that's actually really helpful! I need talking out of this, what with my limited budget and poker straight hair...

If only we could all try a share!!! I've watched all these You Tube tutorials/reviews (to my shame, as I'm always telling the DC to stop watching crap on YouTube), but they haven't really helped...

I've just looked these up and I cannot believe how expensive they are!!!!

Needs, that's my sticking point too!! I am just desperate about my sodding hair. I have cuts via Groupon (about £14 every 6 months), and do my roots myself with a root touch-up kit, so don't spent a huge amount on maintenance - but it's the day to day misery that gets me down!!

I want one too but can't yet justify the expense to myself

Some John Lewis stores do a demo to let you see how it works on your hair.

I want one too. I think I'll treat myself next month. Unless DH picks up on my hints before then 🤷🏽‍♀️

Yep I really want one too but can't justify spending that much on something I might use. I already have a drawer full of hair gadgets (babyliss big hair, chopstick, curl wand, GHDs) that I rarely use...

What is it? Also thick ciurly hair

If your hair doesn’t hold with other curlers then it won’t hold with this
Many people in the Mrs Gloss and the Goss Facebook page has one (go have a look). I really really want one even though I don’t use the curler I already have!

It's £450! My God!

I've read some reviews but I can't see how it's different to the babyliss big hair really? I do like that but I never have time to use it. I suppose if you had half an hour to style your hair every day... £450 though seems outrageous.

The ones I just looked at were over £600!! I can barely be arsed to wash my hair (twice a week) because I can never be arsed to do anything with it apart from scrape it back - thick, curly, long. This does make it look a breeze to control but not for that much!

I have the Dyson hairdryer and I really love it. I wasn’t hugely sold on it when I first bought it but I went back to the Dyson counter in Boots and the woman showed me where I was going wrong. So it may be that the people who aren’t impressed by the Airwrap may just need to tweak their technique.

I’ve spent weeks watching YouTube reviews for the Airwrap but I just can’t spend that money, not when I already own the hairdryer! Blush

I hear you. I covet it too but no way can I justify that price.

I too have poker straight hair and the only thing that ever changed it was a perm (in the 80s when they were in) and it made my hair brittle, dry and split.

The only advice I can give is to work with what you have got. I have my hair in an inverted bob which gives it volume and saves it hanging limply around my head and face. It is short at the front so it finishes at my chin - this works with my long thin face as my hair before made me look drawn. The short length makes it a bit more amenable to styling (it's fine and very heavy so drags down when it has more length). I can use straighteners to smooth it, give shine and flick the ends in or out as a style. Twice a year I get half head foils in 3 shades, light blonde, mid blonde and red. Which looks natural on my mid blonde hair and gives interest. I get a hair cut 6-8 weekly (£20) and the foils are about £50.

It has taken me 20 years of my adult life to realise that I get on so much better with my hair now I have found a style that works with my face structure, colouring and hair type. I no longer fight my hair, I work with it IYSWIM.

I still covet the Dyson though!

Have you thought about a root perm... i have thick straight hair which used to be quite 'flat' I now have a perm every 6 months (forget the horrors of 80's perms😬) and it gives my hair body/waves and curls when blown properly (in the salon) And i have an Olaplex treatment at the same time so the condition stays as good as possible...

I have one!
I have thick, wavy hair naturally.
I absolutely love mine, the hairdryer setting dries my hair in 8 minutes which is crazy because a hair dryer takes 30 minutes 😂😂
In terms of the styling, the straightening, blow dry style
setting is amazing. The curler and wave attachments are also amazin big are a little tricky to get the hang of.
All in all, I love it. I bought mine on qvc and did it on 4 payments if that helps!

I got one from DH and DS for Xmas. I am useless with my hair and had wistfully expressed an admiration for the Airwrap, but had said it was way too expensive.

It's taken me a few days to get the hang of it, but I now have soft vintage curls that despite being brushed to within an inch of their life have stayed intact all day. The trick is not to overdry it at the rough dry stage, and to make sure it's completely cool before removing the barrel.

I am so disappointed with mine. It was a Christmas present from DH and he was so delighted to get me what I wanted (and I did want it, desperately) that i havent the heart to send it back. It just makes my hair frizzy and the curls drop instantly. Very underwhelmed by it tbh. My Bighair was much better.

Cross posted with poshjock about perms... as i said, my perm is NOTHING like those 80's permsConfusedas soon as i started re-perming about 5/6 years ago, it made a HUGE difference to the volume and style (in the best possible way)

Have also heard very mixed reviews about the airwrap... apparently you can try it out in John Lewis...
