Aibu? He starts it up and leaves it running then goes off and does something or other whilst it’s still running . 8 minutes it’s been running for now .
Massive booming exhaust as well pumping all kinds of crap into the atmosphere !
He’s an idiot!

On the road or on his drive?

Take it for a drive around the block. That'll learn 'im.

Tell him if he does it again you'll report him as it's against the law to leave car running whilst unattended

Not on private land. Not sensible but not illegal.

YANBU presumably he's too delicate to manage a cold car for a few minutes.

Is this the neighbour of the lady yesterday who leaves her car running on private drive?

Report
BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 17/12/2018 12:40

Just go out and turn it off (and throw the keys in a Bush...)

Report
justilou1 · 17/12/2018 12:40

Go and nick his keys and chuck them up a tree or something.

Are you the neighbour of the OP yesterday who runs her car to warm it up every morning?

Yanbu btw

RightYesButNo · 17/12/2018 12:43

Another saying take it for a short drive around the block. Tell him since he was warming up the car anyway, you decided to assist by warming up the seat for him. This is what being a good, selfless neighbor is all about.

YANBU, it's anti-social for starters.

Do you live next door to my brother 🙄

Is it a specialist engine? Some need a bit of warming for performance Hmmslightly talking here from conversations I've heard rather than knowledge IYKWIM

Is he not just clearing the windscreen because it is icy? Where we are today I had to sit in my car and wait for the screen to defrost.

Admittedly I could have got out and got the scraper out and scrapped a big hole in the icy bit, but you still need to also run the car and warm the screen whilst you scrape it, else it freezes over again and you still can't see. I went for sitting in the car with the engine running and windscreen wipers going rather than scraping but it still takes 5 minutes or so for the screen to be clear enough to drive.

Mind your own business?

I assume you're perfect & never use your car when you could walk??

If he has left the car, running and fucked off then his insurance will be invalid if it gets nicked....

Go toot his horn.
*not a euphemism.

I warm my car up on the drive to clear the windscreen but I’d never leave it unattended. It only takes a few minutes but it really isn’t safe to drive until everything is cleared so I give it a good blast while I sit in the car with a coffee.

Well it is her business when it makes a noise and pumps unnecessary fumes into the air.

I use my car all the time but I’m not such a delicate flower that I can’t cope with sitting in a chilly car for 5 minutes.

LadyDick and Tinty why not just scrape your windscreens on the outside and use a cloth to wipe the inside? It’s pretty lazy, not to mention shit for the environment, to leave your engine running.

I do scrape it on the outside. And use a cloth if it’s just wet. I’m talking about when it’s steamed up and I literally can’t see out of it.

Oh and in my old VW the windscreen used to ice inside. Try scraping that.

LittleLongDog

If the engine is not running and so the car is still cold the screen freezes up again pretty quickly. Plus scraping the screen doesn't clear the screen very well, you still need to warm the screen so it doesn't ice up again.

MaxTeyon · 17/12/2018 13:10

I just sit in the car and wait till it defrosts, usually only 5 mins or so.
