They have a point.

I’m not at all shocked, it is very predictable, particularly from something like Vice.

Depends. Are you shocked because you think the accusation is unfounded?

It's a terrible article, I've seen it on twitter.

Wouldn't lose much sleep over a writer just trying to be one of the cool kids and only writing about one side of a two sided debate.

Yawn...

How dare women take an interest in things that affect our lives. Back in the kitchen all of you.

GladAllOver · 07/12/2018 14:26

Anyone or anything protecting women is automatically labelled transphobic.
Get used to it. I have.

To be fair, it is becoming a hotbed of transphobia. I still find some of the parenting advice useful but some of the absolutely disgusting and unfiltered transphobia and hatred for trans people really makes me question if I want to be part of this forum.

It's frankly disgusting.

It's odd that the article juxtaposes the ‘Let Girls Be Girls’ and ‘Let Toys Be Toys’ with the nasty feminists who have a very narrow view of what it is to be a woman, as if it is two different things. As if, used correctly Mumsnet is a good thing but used badly it is a hot bed of transphobia.

But all the above is just different facets of the same argument, which is that gender stereotypes are limiting and harmful to boys and girls and have little to do with the realities of the sexed body.

I mean....Mumsnet does feel very transphobic. Its quite sad and the amount of negative assumptions i see on here about trans people is concerning. Id love to see mumsnet get a more modern opinion but sadly i doubt that will happen.

Well it is so I don’t know why you’re shocked op.

ADastardlyThing · 07/12/2018 14:32

Yanbu I'm quite surprised as from what I've seen there have really only been a very very small minority of transphobic posts which are always removed by mnhq.

JustABetterPlayer · 07/12/2018 14:33

Given that they are correct that 90% of the feminism posts are harping on about it they’re probably right.

Grumpasaurus if you spot any transphobia you should report it. MN will delete.

That is unless you are one of those people that think any questioning of TRA ideology is transphobic.

Posters on trans threads are very careful about the language they use but trans people are not exactly loved on here are they?

That does sound disgusting. Can you link to some examples?

Dress it up how you want, but there is a nasty element of veiled transphobia on MN. It goes much much further than protecting women's rights.

That's tricky as it's always deleted. Doesn't mean it wasn't there in the first place.

The thread about the trans woman who was missing and vulnerable springs to mind for me. Quite rightly it was deleted.

Veiled transphobia AKA daring to disagree with nonsense.

Report
BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 07/12/2018 14:39

There's a very good reason why posts are "harping on" about trans issues. This situation threatens to be the greatest roll-back of women's rights in this country, ever. Maybe the majority will realise this but I sincerely hope that it won't be when it's too late to do anything about it. Need confirmation of just how serious this is? Look at Canada, they've drunk the Kool-Aid.

If you think single sex spaces are important you’re a transphobe nowadays.

If you think a woman is an adult human Female you’re a transphobe

#awkward

3WildOnes · 07/12/2018 14:39

I don’t believe you are shocked to read that. I don’t believe that anyone who posts in the feminism section is so unaware that they don’t realise that the vast majority or people think that saying a trans woman is a man is transphobic. I might agree with your opinion to a point but I’m aware that is considered a transphobic view by many.

Perfectly summed up. Staying just within the rules doesn't mean that the intent behind the message is not transphobic.

Report
SnuggyBuggy · 07/12/2018 14:40

The term transphobia is so broad it's meaningless.

Report
ADastardlyThing · 07/12/2018 14:40

I recall a thread where a poster was talking about medication and surgery as if it was a vital element of being trans. I know they were called out on it as that very definitely IS transphobic isn't it. That sort of thing?
