He made DS a peanut butter sandwich and put a thick layer of butter on the bread first

It's not just me is it? That's weird to the point of perversity. What kind of freak would do that?

DS very sensibly refused to have anything to do with said sandwich. I was cross at the waste but not at DS.

What the heck?! Peanut BUTTER <—— it’s right there it’s not a peanut butter butter sandwich. LTB

OutragedERIC Thu 06-Dec-18 23:22:59

Dirty, dirty bastard.

Ollivander84 Thu 06-Dec-18 23:24:02

shock PB needs butter first
Do you eat toast with just PB?! The butter is there to soften and lubricate grin the toast
Get in the sea

PermanentlyFrizzyHairBall Thu 06-Dec-18 23:25:36

I had this debate with a roommate once she said you need butter in addition to peanut butter because otherwise it sticks to the roof of your mouth. I, like you, felt that you're doubling up on butter and it's clearly food that needs to be thrown in a fire.

Knittink Thu 06-Dec-18 23:26:33

What's wrong with that? You do know that peanut butter doesn't actually have any butter in it, right, grin

curlykaren Thu 06-Dec-18 23:27:50

I just had two slices of peanut butter on toast, it never crossed my mind to put butter on it??

Ollivander84 Thu 06-Dec-18 23:28:41

It's all dry without butter shock
Warburtons crumpets. Butter AND peanut butter. Food of the gods

Singlenotsingle Thu 06-Dec-18 23:31:31

Vile bastard peanut butter shock

FiveStoryFire Thu 06-Dec-18 23:31:51

Are you not supposed to put butter on it?

SpoonBlender Thu 06-Dec-18 23:32:10

Peanut butter is mashed peanuts with a bit of oil and salt. There's no butter in it.

I always use Meridian, and that needs a bit of butter(-like-spread in my case) else it's too rugged to swallow, even in a PBJ.

AyoadesChinDimple Thu 06-Dec-18 23:33:07

Ugh. Peanut butter needs no lube. Filth.

1MillionSelfiesTakenByMyKids Thu 06-Dec-18 23:33:14

If you find it dry you add honey or jam.

I tried a mouthful just to see if maybeDH had a point (so sure me. I'm open minded) it wad the greasiest grimmest thing I've put in my mouth since i was a teenager.

Parisbun Thu 06-Dec-18 23:33:48

Yuck - how horrid to contemplate peanut butter in a sandwich WITHOUT BUTTER shock
Peanut butter is all sticky and claggy without proper butter to lubricate the bread.
Next thing you'll tell me is that you make jam sandwiches with no butter either . Weirdo wink

Georgeofthejungle Thu 06-Dec-18 23:33:59

I agree your husband! I also have butter and Philadelphia. Delish smile

Lovingbenidorm Thu 06-Dec-18 23:34:20

There’s another thread going on about butter with cheese.
Come on people!
My feelings are it’s totally 🤢
BUT if you want butter with cheese or peanut butter then you go there!

cariadlet Thu 06-Dec-18 23:34:21

Why on earth would anyone eat peanut butter (on toast, bread, bagel, ryvita or anything else) without spreading some butter or margarine first. It would be so dry and (like the extremely perceptive roommate mentioned above said) stick to the roof of your mouth.

It isn't called peanut butter because it spreads into a layer of butter and layer of peanuts. It's called peanut butter because the peanuts have been crushed and combined with oil to create a spreadable consistency.

Sandbox Thu 06-Dec-18 23:34:27

How is peanut butter dry?!

AtrociousCircumstance Thu 06-Dec-18 23:34:51

Butter is absolutely required. However one must have a light hand, be judicious. Your DH has let us all down with such lavish excess.

Sandbox Thu 06-Dec-18 23:35:02

But the texture is buttery

CarrieBlu Thu 06-Dec-18 23:36:03

YABU. Peanut butter definitely needs butter! Sounds like your DH knows how to make a good sandwich!

22Giraffes Thu 06-Dec-18 23:37:20

You need butter otherwise it's a clumpy mess that doesn't spread properly! (unless you have the awful smooth stuff which is an insult to peanut butter hmm)

Ds and I are slightly obsessed with corncakes & pb atm, mmm now I'm hungry

cariadlet Thu 06-Dec-18 23:37:33

Peanut BUTTER <—— it’s right there it’s not a peanut butter butter sandwich

We don't talk about jam butter sandwiches or cheese butter sandwiches or ham butter sandwiches either. It's taken for granted that you have bread, butter and filling. Peanut butter is no different from other fillings.

ButteryParsnips Thu 06-Dec-18 23:38:04

You need butter. It's claggy otherwise.

SpoonBlender Thu 06-Dec-18 23:38:05

I think we have a split between people who use oily peanut bitter like Sunpat smooth, which I could just about tolerate withouth butter as long as it was on white bread or crumpet, and people who use much drier smashed-peanuts-inna-jar like Meridian which really need butter because they're not as squidgy.
