To be so embarrassed at my mistake

NC as I know people on here IRL and do not want them knowing how stupid I am.

Currently renovating our very tired and dated house and had lovely new windows put in downstairs. I like my privacy but live on a busy man road so have always had blinds in all windows.

As the windows were put in a few days ago and work is still being done, new blinds won't be going in just yet due to all the dust and paint. So I decided to cover up my front room window as people do when getting work done (usually shop fronts)... but clever me thought I would use glass frosting. And used that ALL over my new window. DH came home from work and was horrified he said it's a pain in the arse to remove, disappeared upstairs and left it to me. I genuinely didn't realize it was something different to what is normally used.

AIBU to ask if you've ever done something daft when redecorating/renovating. I am uselsss with any form of DIY but learning a lot. (Clearly not enough).

Oh, and what is the best method to remove the frosting?

No idea, but the thing you actually want in that situation in future is the patterned cling vinyl. It goes on just with water and can be peeled off with no residue at any time. They sell it at the Range and places like that.

If it's the spray on frosting I used cheap nail varnish remover (acetone).

Nail Varnish Remover OP! Or a bottle of pure acetone which is nail tip remover for acrylics. You can get both in boots.

I once had a shop that had a lot of small windows. I wanted to make it Christmassy...so despite my Dad suggesting it would NOT be a good idea as it’s an arse to remove, I went ahead.

Not my error but if it helps my friend threw out a perfectly good washing machine when she moved into her new house because she thought it was broken and bought a new one only to realise they hadn't actually turned on the water supply.

You use Windolene to obscure a window. Put the creme on and its opaque then you wipe it off and clean the windows at the same time.

OH was stripping some hideous expensive wallpaper from our dining room the day before the children's christening, they were 4 and 6. There was a thick lining paper and he let them draw with felt pens on it for fun. He later repapered the wall and was very proud of it, until the felt pens leaked through. Very last minute dash to B and Q, stripping and hanging wallpaper at 1 am on the morning of the christening!

Last summer my DS had noticed he could now reach light switches and the heating switch on the walls (he was only 2 but switches are all strangely low down 🤷🏻‍♀️) and liked to go round the house pressing all the switches... well it was easy enough to spot when he'd pressed a light switch, but I didn't always notice the heating until i had a mad sweat on despite windows being open so I had the genius idea to just switch the boiler temporarily to hot water only as it was summer after all and I wouldn't be needing heating for a bit anyway... fast forward to mid November and I'm trying to turn heating on but radiators are staying stone cold... after a few calls to the housing to try to arrange an actual set day for a plumber to come out (they usually turn up any day within a week of calling) I even took a day off work to wait in and the first thing he did was check boiler where he saw that I didn't even have the heating switched on in the first place 🤦🏻‍♀️

I was quite embarrassed when he explained to me the issue
