AIBU?

To only buy one shape of pasta?

I'm tidying up the kitchen cupboards. There are currently 6 mostly-empty bags, each with a different shape of pasta. WIBU to only ever buy a single shape from now on? And if so, which shape is best? I'm thinking of going for fusilli.

One type of pasta sounds amazing - we have 57 types in the house and the pretentious DH often declares "you've used the wrong pasta for this sauce". I can't even tell you how many times I've shouted "starve and die then, tosspot" at him as he smugly announces Jamie Oliver's opinion on this type of pasta. Fuck him and fuck Jamie Oliver.

Yabu, conchiglie is best

If you’re only going to ever use one I think it should be penne.

I like penne and probably get that most frequently, but I do like to have options.

penne or rigatoni. Though fusilli best for pesto pasta. And linguine not spaghetti.

No no!

If you only buy one type you can never mix them all together to find out whether Jamie Oliver is right or just a pretentious pasta pusher!

I only buy penne, makes life easier.

For the most part, I only buy penne. Simply because Tesco sells it in massive bags and we eat loads of it.

I love going to my Mum's because she buys interesting shapes (because it's only her and my dad, and they don't consume virtually a whole 500g in one sitting)

they take different amounts of time to cook, so I'd never mix them, so I can see it's annoying to have the dregs of more than one kind knocking about.

Different types of pasta suit different sauces, so depends what you eat with your pasta. Maybe you could rationalise to 2 or 3 types?

Linguine!

Lidl Halloween pasta is the best especially the black spiders. It’s pretty much the highlight of Halloween in our house!

Does it matter about different pasta shapes, just buy the same cooking times, embrace the crazy and mix together...

Bung the remains of the bags you have all in one dish together, then I would probably limit myself to two, a spaghetti/linguine and a penne. No need to limit yourself unnecessarily.

Yes, penne only in this house

I always buy the bow shaped ones, but my husband likes penne, so we have both at home.

You need 4!

Linguine
Lasagne sheets
Penne
Fusilli

The last 2 can be changed but must be sauce or chunk carriers.

oh, make that 5, soup pasta too!

No, 6. Cous cous is a pasta too!

@Idontbelieveinthemoon, my stepmother is Italian and often sends me FF my dad to buy pasta " to go with X sauce". It took him around 15 years to learn the complex rules Smile

YABU - I get an itchy feeling when we are down to just spaghetti and penne.

I buy conchiglie and linguine, and that's it.

One long one, one shaped one.

I like tagliatelle and penne personally. Although I have a wee weakness for a farfalle 🦋 at times.

I've got a drawer full of bags of pasta........ Blush

Penne, Fusilli, Elicoidali, wholewheat types, spaghetti, linguine, lentil pasta for coeliac grandkids & rice pasta too, spinach trottole, macaroni, soup pasta, lasagne sheets and chickpea pasta in the freezer.

It'd kill me to pick one Grin

We have spaghetti and penne. I'd just have penne but ds like spaghetti so I compromise and get both.

I don't give a toss if different pastas go with different sauces. I make pasta bake, Bolognese and pasta pesto, If I need anything fancier I'll got to a restaurant.

You're right Lizzie, I forgot the wholemeal version for when the sauce is so outrageously overindulgent that I feel I have to make up for it Grin

You can get exciting multi-coloured pasta shapes in TK Maxx you know just to add to the confusion

Fusilli is great for holding sauce in the flanges. Or those ones that look like Piglet's ears, whatever that's called.
