Where does it say "mild telling off"?

Sirzy · 25/09/2018 06:57

Child was in the wrong but a schools basic safeguarding should have meant they realised they had too many children! School need to have another look at their approach.

NancyJoan · 25/09/2018 06:58

Those poor teachers. Must have almost had a heart attack when they realised she was on the bus. Mum is looking for what? Compensation? 4 minutes on the sofa with Phil and Holly?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/09/2018 06:58

Determined little madam isn't she? All that conniving and still she is the wronged party? Don't think so!

Eminybob · 25/09/2018 07:00

The girl obviously shouldn’t have done it, but she’s 9 ffs, the school are clearly responsible. Sounds like the girl got a telling off, she’s been told be her parents that she ant go on any more school trips etc so I don’t think she’s got off lightly. But the school need to be hauled over the coals for this.

TittyGolightly · 25/09/2018 07:03

From the comments. I can’t be the only one who thinks this is “look, I haven’t got £150, just sneak on the bus, keep your head down, and they’ll just have to take you”, can I? Reeks of it.

Toddleoo · 25/09/2018 07:03

Sounds like she had an appropriate telling off, she's not getting to go on any trips now which sounds very apt. It's fair that the school are getting 'a blasting', it may have been an unfortunate oversight but when you're an organisation responsible for children's safety you accept the blame and do better next time, it's not like the parents are asking for sackings.

LEMtheoriginal · 25/09/2018 07:08

I must be very immature because i thinkits pretty funny. At least they didnt lose one!!! Why wasnt she on the trip anyway? Bit shit if she was left out

saoirse31 · 25/09/2018 07:10

What are primary schools doing running trips that cost 150, therefore ensuring some pupils can't go? Seems crazy money for 9 year olds. What do the ones who can't afford it or whose parents won't pay do? Sit in almost empty classroom? Ggh ** on point of thread, school at fault, but I'd query whose idea the whole thing was too.

Eminybob · 25/09/2018 07:13

^ in primary school my whole class bar me and one other girl got to go on a trip to London (we were in Jersey, so this involved ferry travel and overnight stays) but we couldn’t afford it. It was shit. Not fair at all to do this to primary aged children.

BoneyBackJefferson · 25/09/2018 07:14

Is a tv channel doing re runs of grange hill? TBH its one of the reasons that I hate doing school trips. It sounds like the teachers just wrangled them on to the bus without lining them up and counting them on. SO yes the school should get a blasting for that.

BellMcEnd · 25/09/2018 07:15

”She got on the bus after falling out with her brother, R'emaina, over a 2nd EU referendum.” This comment made me properly laugh grin

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/09/2018 07:15

I find it hard to believe the school didn’t do a head count. Just as likely a friend hid her.

LEMtheoriginal · 25/09/2018 07:15

I agree saoirse31 my dd is in yr9 now and was lucky to go on an expensive school trip last year. Thete is another trip this year but i wont be sending her. But it isvery much not a trip for the whole year group so she wont be left out. Her school does trips like this in activity week which means everyone is doing fun stuff and the majority that dont go arent missing out. Very unfair to put parents under financial pressure if all the class is going.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 25/09/2018 07:19

Mother being totally unreasonable for calling her daughter "L'evea".

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/09/2018 07:22

Piper. Yes. L’evea is a ridiculous name.

Katjolo · 25/09/2018 07:23

Ridiculous story. The kid did this on purpose and probably had her friends hide her.... The mother probably also encouraged it. Poor teachers. I can see why some schools can't be bothered to organise exciting residential trips.

LittleMissPonsible · 25/09/2018 07:26

On the cost issue, it’s quite usual to have more expensive residential trips at primary school alongside usual day trips. The cost can usually be spread over a year or more and there are hardship funds that can be applied for. Pupils get a lot out of residential trips, it’s worth parents being organised or exploring alternative funding options. IME the pupils who don’t got on these trips are the ones that genuinely don’t fancy taking part in the activities offered.

SnuggyBuggy · 25/09/2018 07:27

I can see how it happened, they did a register, everyone was there so why do a headcount. Also hideous made up name.

Sirzy · 25/09/2018 07:30

Headcounts should be standard at every step of a school trip! You get bored of counting heads. In the excitement of a trip, especially residential, register alone can ofren not be the best approach because it is too easy to mishear or on a coach someone else say “yes”

TittyGolightly · 25/09/2018 07:31

Mother being totally unreasonable for calling her daughter "L'evea".. He brother is called R’emainer.

saoirse31 · 25/09/2018 07:31

"IME the pupils who don’t got on these trips are the ones that genuinely don’t fancy taking part in the activities offered."Yeah cos no one ever said that, instead if I can't afford it....

Or R’emayna

ektomarie · 25/09/2018 07:32

The school failed to do a head count on the bus. I’ve been a parent volunteer on a school day trip in a primary. One head count when everyone is exiting the classroom by teacher. Second headcount as pupils get on the bus by same teacher. Third headcount by different teacher before bus sets off. There is no way you can sneak on the bus if the school is doing its job.
