AIBU?

To think that the idea that the Croydon Cat killer is actually a Fox is a load of b*ll**cks

^^just that really. I'm not buying this fox theory. Mutilated cats left on owners doorsteps...don't think even the most intelligent foxes could manage that.

AIBU to feel that either a) the police no longer have resources to spend on this or b) it is a tactic used to try and lull the perpetrator into a false sense of security?

Absolutely agree.
The thing is, if someone does this to cats, what happens when they tire of mutilating helpless animals. Scares me to think people are so sick as to do this.

I’m just Hmm that they had 15 officers dedicated to it tbh.

And no, I have no difficulty believing the fox theory and think it’s a lot more logical than some sort of mass cover up of cat killings Confused

I heard this on the news earlier and couldn't believe it. I really hope it's the latter. I find it very odd it could just be dropped as a case

Or c) they know who it is and are covering it up. Yanbu, this stinks of bullshit

I thought there were specific, undisclosed things that were done to the animals which identified the deaths as linked?

Report
LadyGAgain · 20/09/2018 22:46

It's not a fox. The style and type of mutilation isn't a fox. I know someone whose cat was a victim here (not Croydon) and it definitely wasn't a fox.

I've wrote this same thing on about 3 different threads now but he does do something on each animal that only a small select people know about. A fox cannot do that he also leaves empty sweet packets at every murder. Unless a fox can go to Tesco... it's complete bullshit

Foxes rarely attack cats. Cats can climb trees, they have claws and a serious bite when they want to. My tiny cats have seen off several foxes from our garden, one of them is so stupid she can't catch a spider, but with raised hackles and growling she's scared our local fox off several times. It's some weirdo unhinged fucker doing it. Scary.

It's what wildlife biologists have been saying the whole time. It's very much scavenger behaviour. Horrific for the owners and obviously so sad for the cats but it makes a lot more sense than the alternative.

have foxes started carrying knives then?! Hmm

I live around this area and it is a load of crap. I know a couple of people whose cats have been killed by this apparent 'fox'. They'd taken their cats to the vets and one vet said the cats tail had definitely been cut off with a sharp knife.

I don't believe a word of it.

Report
KC225 · 20/09/2018 22:50

I read some research by a vet recently that foxes were low risk to cats. Road traffic injuries first and other cats second.

I thought that as well Nancy.

We've had a couple locally (nw london).

Is it one psycho fox with an oyster card or is this a new trend for foxes generally that's spreading ?

Sounds like bollocks to me too.

And they had 15 officers on it? Really???? And on the other hand cressida dick gives an interview and basically she's not interested in historical sex offences or "date rape"....

Right-ho awesome priorities.

BarbarianMum · 20/09/2018 22:52

Not a fox. Also shouldnt be a policing priority.

The urban fox is the scapegoat of our times Sad

My cat will be in the garden with the local fox and not bat an eyelid. Foxes don't eat cats or babies.

I live 15 minutes from Croydon, there have been quite a few here. I don’t know details but from what I’ve read on local Facebook sites the fox theory seems a bit wrong

SPOFS · 20/09/2018 22:53

It's clear that they're just trying to close the case and move on.

I feel awful for the victims though. This won't be comforting at all. It very much minimizes their experiences. Sad

Moanranger · 20/09/2018 22:53

Nah, foxes- they scavenge cats that are RTA victims. Obvious, really, ( biologist, here) but if it floats your boat to think that there is a cat-killing cult out there, carry on!

Report
Creeper8 · 20/09/2018 22:59

So this Fox just happens to be killing cats in a certain place then. If it was foxes wouldn't it be all over the uk.

Report
LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 20/09/2018 23:01

Weren't some of the cats found on their owners doorsteps? Very clever these foxes to know where to leave them!

Report
MsOliphant · 20/09/2018 23:02

Also it's been going on for years. Urban foxes just don't live very long- RTA are their biggest cause of death too.

Report
DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 20/09/2018 23:03

It all seems a bit hysterical now tbh. Because you know someone whose cat was confirmed to have ‘not died by fox’ doesn’t mean there is someone serial killing cats.

Unsure what knives and sweet wrappers have got to do with anything other than gossip.

Also on the radio they said that people are reporting similar patterns elsewhere in the country. So now some cat killing lunatic is travelling around purely to kill cats?!

It just isn’t logical.

Report
mumof2andsurviving · 20/09/2018 23:04

Nancy75 yes there were specific modus operandi that linked them

@LetsGoFlyAKiteee more likely that a cat managed to crawl home than someone hanging around and abducting a cat (because that’s what you’re saying, right? Because how would a cat killer know where a random cat lived?) only to kill it and leave it on your doorstep?

Well, it’s a niche I suppose.

I’m just that they had 15 officers dedicated to it tbh.

The thing is the reason they had 15 officers is that serial killers often start off hurting animals and then move onto humans.
