AIBU?

to think some posters want to bring MN into disrepute

I had just blocked MN on my phone due to wind up extreme views held by some posters, not that they aren't entitled to them, but it is irritating to constantly read angry posts, and depressing imv, when I thought that if I wanted to give MN a bad name or bring it down this is what I would do - post extreme and unpleasant posts to encourage the reputation of MN users being harridans.
Any views? There are millions of MN users but you could pick your threads and post on certain Subjects.

I don't know the specifics of the users you mean, but there absolutely are posters on here who are not posting in good faith and are solely writing inflammatory stuff to get a response (which can be screenshotted and shared on Twitter as evidence of "MN Hate") or simply posting bile that is unrepresentative of most MN users, also to take out of context and use as "evidence"

Thanks, you've explained better what I mean.

You have a legitimate point OP.

But I also have to say that MNHQ are being spectacularly flaky of late and deserve some criticism. An example being I and others reported a post the other day and it was removed then re-instated but closed for further comment so the inflammatory comments were left standing. I asked why they had done that and have received no response. Poor. I'm pretty much in flouncer's corner to be honest.....

Yes. That's why we bump the Public Service Announcement thread regularly, to remind people not to get sucked in to goady threads by unfamiliar posters.

There's a few journos that sniff around for sensationalism. Confused

I feel only one train of thought is allowed, and it shuts down debate. Male posters get a drubbing for the inequalities in the world, an argued discussion would be better. And they end up just leaving the site.

I'm quite sure many journos visit the site for ideas . It must be a nightmare thinking of subjects for a weekly column, plenty of ideas here.
