AIBU?

To think I can wear what I want in my own house?

New neighbours and I think they might be slightly mad.

Few weeks ago she complained about me and oldest dd being in the garden wearing bikinis ( not even teeny bikinis ) as she has a husband and a teenage son and they might see us. I tried hard to make sure if I was out there sunbathing I was away from her garden and moved the kids pool so it would be harder for them to be seen from their fence. ( - the only way they can see in to our garden is when on trampoline, their raised patio or looking out of upstairs window)

This morning I was cleaning kitchen in my pjs (vest and shorts so not revealing) dd was stood by open patio doors chatting to me in shorts and a crop top she sleeps in. Next thing mrs next door is banging on my front door telling me I'm continuing to disrespect her and her family by the provocative way we dress! If we continue to flaunt ourselves she will be complaining to my husband!

I wasn't quite sure what to say - I suggested she maybe wanted to refrain from looking into my house over her fence if we were upsetting her.

She is totally unhinged!

Tell her you hadn't realised they were peeping Tom's!!

Surely that’s harassment (by her towards you). A letter detailing what happened so far and telling her to stop, by registered mail, might be a useful step.

Bonkers. Tell her she needs to advise her husband and son to control themselves instead.

Obviously you all have to take up naked yoga in the garden. Husband included.

What a fruit cake!!

Complaining to your husband!

I assume you laughed at her!

Report
Yutes · 21/08/2018 10:15

Maybe remind her that if they can not control themselves because of the way others dress, then maybe they should see someone about it?

I don’t understand why she obviously has so much time on her hands to take stock of how her neighbours are dressing Confused

What the hell? She and her family need to stop looking through your windows and into your garden. Weirdos. Wear what you like. Maybe walk around naked to really piss her off Grin

I’d have to insist husband went to answer door in a bikini, and start gardening in nipple tassels.

I think letting your local pcso know you’re being harassed would be reasonable soon!

Tell her buy blinds and close them, that you and your family will dressed how you want in your house and garden.

And that she has no right to demand anything from you as you are doing nothing wrong.

Total idiot of a neighbour poor you !!
What does she expect her OH & DS to do when you are in the garden wear blindfolds or something.
If she complained to my hushand he would laugh at her.

Agree with Yutes: Maybe remind her that if they can not control themselves because of the way others dress, then maybe they should see someone about it?

Not being funny but I would start to make a note of these interactions. She sounds as mad as cheese and you might need a record of her bonkers behaviour.

Well stop being accommodating and if she carries on get advice from your local
CPO. This may need a strong nipping in the bud op.

Haha naked yoga.

Love the idea of sending DH out in a bikini but much as I love him I don't want to inflict that sight on my other lovely neighbours.

I'm considering a hot tub and letting dd invite all her 15 year old friends round to have a party - she would probably combust in rage and problem would be solved.

"If your son and husband cant control themselves when they see women dressed normally, then they a) shouldn't be staring and b) will end up on some sort of register.

I think she should concern herself more with her husband and sons being perverts (if they are in fact affected in any way by catching sight of female human beings and it's not just crazy pants next door making things up).

I certainly wouldn't be changing my daily habits to satisfy her creepy, perverted concerns.

She's harassing you.

Are they fundies (insert religion of choice)?

Either way, the words fuck off are a full sentence.

Start a diary, OP, as others have suggested.

This could be the beginning of further odd behaviour, and from other threads, those OPs were kicking themselves at not documenting earlier behaviour to build the pattern.

And yes, if her husband and son aren't able to control themselves, it's them who need to do something about that, it's not up to you to change your behaviour.

Might be worth a call to the non emergency police number. Our NDN when we had lived here a few months got it into her head that our cats were getting into her house while she slept/was out and depositing their fur all over her stuff... which was an issue as she’s allergic to cats. Never saw them do it and nor did she and I really don’t think they ever did (I mean, how often do you wake up to find someone else’s cats have been in your house?! Also they’re our cats so they’re often in our house!!)

Anyway, long story short, she kept sending us letters detailing the cat dander she had found in her house and including photos of what was supposedly their fur on her things (although never any photos of the actual cats in her house). It was getting ridiculous, letters three times a week and her coming round and demanding to see our cats to match fur samples from them. She’s clearly off her head. It was quickly turning into harassment in my book, so I phoned the non emergency line and they sent a very kind PCSO round to warn her off. That was last summer and (touch wood) no more nonsense since.

I think they are fairly religious but not sure which one - they spend most of Sunday out of house and sing religious songs as a family when out in their garden- now I could complain about that but I don't.
