So currently, in our house we have

Me
DH
DS
DSD1
DSD2

MIL
SIL
SIL
DNephew
DNiece

FOR TWO WEEKS

WIBU to have to unexpectedly stay super late at work?
The real kicker is that SIL has a phobia of dogs so my best pal, DDog, has had to stay at a (very nice dog loving) colleagues house Sad. Should I just go with the dog?!

Honestly, I get on well with the family but it's just so much. It's DSD2's bday this week and the first time we've had her for it so I understand everyone wants to be here. But for two weeks?! Argh

Anyone got any tips how to deal with so many guests? I'm running out of towels 🤣

Why are they all staying with you for 2 weeks?

Why did you agree to them staying for two weeks? Say no next time

I would stay at work later...definitely! Might even have myself a takeaway.

YADNBU! My in laws travel from another country to stay and do so for longish periods! I find all manner of reasons to stay in work late or plan nights with the girls (to allow them all some time to ‘catch up’ without me) or just do a REALLY LONG visit to Aldi!

Ultimately because they want to lol.

DH's ex moved with DSDs back to her home country when they split up so his family don't get to see the girls very often. DH loves having everyone here and so do the girls.

I could not host that long. It would feel invasive, even in a large house. I think you and DDog should go away somewhere nice!

Don't stay at work. Go and take DDog for a lovely long walk.

I agreed to it because I'm a walkover a very agreeable person 🙃

Wow two weeks??

And your dog had to move out?

Yes stay at work late, visit the dog, see friends...

I am staying with family soon.
And in their garage annexe which is completely self contained.
And it's just me.

But I am STILL going to make myself scarce and take myself out and not be under their feet all the time. It's not nice for them to feel they have to actively "host" me when I am quite capable.

I can't think of much worse than your house guests all cramped in together for such a long time!

Christ you’re a saint. Work late and spend time with your puppy

You definitely need to go and spend some time with the dog. It's only fair as you're being very accommodating of SIL.

I hope your DH is being an active host. Is DH working too?

Visit your dog. It would be rude not to.

He is an active host, he's working but only til 2pm each day so he comes back and will take/taxi every one out for the day.

I think visiting DDog each day is a great plan along with things 'coming up' at work. 👍🏼

Is your partner the father of your son? (Sounds like one of those French lessons from school!) If not, is your son happy to be at home without you?

YANBU - my family are lovely but no way would I want them staying for 2 weeks - I like my space!

I'm be tempted to work late and order myself a takeaway. Oh and then go and visit ddog Grin

I don't know how you are coping - seriously, I'd hate guests for 2 weeks, family or not! Maybe I'm just an unsociable cow though Grin

Lots of Wine and Cake for you!

Are the ILs staying for the whole time the SDs are there. Will the SDs get to spend any time alone with their father?

To quote Benjamin Franklin "Guests like fish begin to smell after three days" and is the rule I use when visiting family etc. OP I feel your pain and your poor Ddog being removed from their home too!

Just had my MIL and BIL stay with us - in our one bedroom apartment - for two weeks. I feel you.

Go on holiday with DDog. It'll be more fun for both of you.
