AIBU?

I think that every post & responder should label themselves

Attention!

MN is so bloody subjective. It’s impossible to qualify / quantify the audience & responders to a post without some measurable criteria.

MN- I think you are deliberately ignoring this because it suits you.

How much more telling would it be if each poster could be categorised according to the following, as a minimum:

Age
Family income or Socio-economic group
U.K. location

I’m sure there are many other categories.

What do you reckon? Or does it suit MN to ignore this perspective?

No OP... It's a stupid idea.. because it's a website, people can lie in their answers so the information is rendered useless.

Age 92
Socio-economic group= extremely privileged
Income- I'm considerably richer than most
Location - all over the Commonwealth

Despite all this, I'm totally in touch with lesser mortals and definitely know how to make a chicken last all week

I live in a place where, to a large extent, you would struggle to tell who lived in the big fancy house and who lived in the pokey council flat. I'm pretty sure we don't follow your expected voting patterns or attitudes.

I'm really not sure what you would have to gain from this information.

Sex - not for a long time but open to offers
Location - currently lying face up in bed
Age - older than I've ever been before
Socio-economic status - doing OK thanks

Like most people my friends are people who hold similar (though not necessarily political!) views. MN shows me that not everybody owns their own house or has nice schools nearby. It's shown me that other people have similar and different problems at various points in their lives.
I don't want or need to know their background.

Nah, fuck that.

Age: menopausal

Socio/Economic status: Don't know what that is. Own my own home and earn just slightly less than I want to spend each month if that helps.

UK location: Cheshire darling, but not the posh bit where all the WAGs are.

Oh hang on, I've just remembered what this reminds me of. A/S/L in the chatrooms of old. Which nobody was ever honest about and just meant if you were female you got sent dick pics.

In what way would this Information help you?

Report
bbcessex · 11/08/2018 00:37

JaneJeffer - feels like loads of ways.

I suppose if yambabes is right and people would lie, then it wouldn’t help much.

But if it could be relied upon, then I could use it as a qualification / ratification. against the poster’s response.

Eg - on the funeral thread, approx 90% posters felt that basic funeral costs of >£2k were something that should be anticipated by the deceased prior to death and planned for.

Just occurred to me that more info about the posters could be helpful to benchmark their perspectives.

Response to OP: what an excellent idea. But please tell me which of the above categories are lies. How would it affect your ability to the my opinion into account to know which ones are lies?

When there are threads asking things like "How much do you earn?" and other similar ones it amazes me how much oversharing goes on given how jumpy posters are about not being outed.

What if we don't want to be categorized or stereotyped?
Are my views more or less valid because of my age or income? Would it make a difference if that income was earned by another member of my household, or due to inherited wealth ,or conversely benefits?
I think most people posting do try to contextualize their replies when they consider it relevant. But it's often not relevant, in which case they don't bother.
