I know they are useful but I am sick of being paralysed by indecision for every small purchase. How much of my life is wasted reading reviews for trivial items (water bottles, memory cards, socks...) and don’t even start me on trip advisor.

This hotel is our favourite in the area - we have a wonderful romantic getaway here every anniversary being spoilt by the attentive staff, eating delicious food etc.

This hotel is terrible. Don’t waste your money. Rude staff, dirty swimming pool, inedible food.

I literally read two reviews like this of the same hotel the other day .

There are aaaaaalways customers who are just never ever happy. I think some people actually live just for writing bad reviews...

We got 3 star review, because they chose something they don't like. Not a whole dish. You can mix and match toppings as you like! They don't like mushrooms. But they picked them.... Got one star because food was apparently disgusting. Yet the waiter checked on them during the meal, all was apparently well, saw them smiling on cctv, and they completely emptied their plates...

Worked in customer facing roles for 16 years and honestly lost any illusions about people's intelligence.

On the other hand reviews, REAL ONES, can be very helpful when deciding on big purchases. I don't bother with checking on small ones. If it's under £20 don't bother reading.

I'm sure I saw an article today about a Review done for a beach in Cornwall. The sand was too wet .

I do see what you mean, I do tend to prefer to read the reviews before I buy something expensive (washing machine, dishwasher etc), but i do take them with a pinch of salt. I find the reviews helpful when deciding if the deal is too good to be true!

I sort of look at the average rating. So 30 people saying a place is fantastic, but one person saying it's the worst thing ever... I'll just ignore the poor review. But if you have 10 negative reviews with a similar issue, I'll probably pay a bit of attention to it.

I once stayed somewhere that I have since seen listed in best places to stay lists where a trip advisor reviewer had reviewed the resort has having the wrong kind of sand!

As much as reviews are annoying I always make sure to review local independent business. Nd I would encourage everyone to do the same.
There is nothing more motivating than hearing great feedback, bad feedback helps us grow and work on things.
Reviews also do help with getting business in so #shoplocal and review😉

Unless you are what I described before. Than just don't not only review, but don't even go there😝JK

Some poor sod in India is keeping his family fed on those reviews. It's quite fun trying to work out if it's a genuine review or not.

I really like reading reviews. However I've just realised its because of the little tips people leave rather than the review itself. For example someone might say if you turn right outside of the campsite you'll find a phone box (obviously I made that up you won't find a phone box anywhere )
I tend to ignore bad reviews unless as a PP said there is a stream of them. I had a wonderful holiday last year in a 3 star hotel where the food was the most sumptuous banquet I have ever had the privilege of experiencing. According to more than a few reviews it was 'rubbish' and 'bland'

This top is fine. It adequately hides my fat bits and doesn’t cling in the wrong places. Also it’s cotton so not too sweaty.

This sock is ok. You can’t see it over the top of my trainer.

This hotel was fine. We could hear people next door having sex but they were quick so it wasn’t too much of a problem.

Lol, I forgot about the haribo bears, wasn’t there also some about a picture of a z list celebrity. I can’t remember his name. Also the Wolef fleeces had some good ones too.

This suitcase is big. I told my husband it was big enough for what we needed and I was right.

These toothbrush heads fit my toothbrush and don’t fall off. However I have several fillings so they can’t be that good.

I like reviews. I feel they offer greater transparency in a market saturates by choice. I use tripadvisor all the time to choose restaurants and hotels. Obviously I don't tend to set much store by the occasional poor one (or occasional amazing one) but look at the overall trend. It's pretty clear that if there are lots of reviewers and they've mostly given only 1 or 2 stars, that it's probably a place to avoid! Equally, if somewhere I'm intetested in going has 1000 5 star reviews and no poor ones... it is reassuring!

It's also useful to check specific things. For instance, I can book a hotel that says it has aircon or Wi-Fi, but only by checking the reviews will I know the quality of it; if it's reliable or a bit dodgy or weak.

I don't even mind being asked to review things... If I don't want to, I just ignore the request - no big deal!

I find reviews especially useful when travelling abroad, especially places like Cambodia and Lombock, where I wasn't sure about the food in restaurants. Some reviews were full of numerous ood poisoning claims - restaurants we avoided!

I imagine the prospect of reviews might be a little daunting or frustrating for a restaurant or hotel owner and I haven't experienced it from this perspective.. but I assume that if it's a decent establishment the majority of reviews would be positive? And therefore reviews should be an advantage? Correct me if I'm wrong as I've never really thought it it from the point of view of the establishment under review!

I did cancel our holiday parking after I read the reviews 2 days before travelling as there was one glowing 5 start review vs about 20+ negative reviews - all saying cars damaged, dirty etc. Ended up paying about £30 more but didn't worry about my car throughout the holiday. Think I have seen too many 'Fake Britain' style reports on holiday car parks!

I get so annoyed with the Hermes request for reviews - I get them randomly asking how the service was on delivering a parcel - but doesn't tell me which one! So just before Christmas when I was getting multiple deliveries I was clueless as to which one they were asking about!

You always dread bad ones, but if you are doing things right, you will get the goodones. I read ours over a morning coffee and usually they make my day. I make sure to let the staff know so they feel like their work is being appreciated. The bad ones. Well it depends. I was once fuming for 3 days because it was so unfair. It was absolutely the customer's issue, not ours and I tried to dispute it with tripadvisor to no avail.
But if it's a bad justified one, and we did get fewbut really just few 😁 (we have amazing stuff) I go and deal with the issue.
The first bad one we ever got made me cry though. But that's just because I was tired after 13 hours 7 days a week shifts😉

I adore review sections. I skip right to 1 star or poor because people really let their crazy show.
For example the hotel I am going to next week just received a 1 start review because the sea wasn’t warm enough to swim in. I hope the management have sorted that issue by the time I get there.
