Just had this discussion with my DP and mum and we all had a completely different answers.

I believe in reincarnation.

My DP is an atheist and believes nothing happens.

My mum believes in heaven/hell.

I used to think nothing, it my gran died and there was a thurderstorm on her funeral day and lightening hit our house and did almost no damage. My mum always said it was her saying goodbye and she'd make a thunderstorm when she died. 30 years later she died, that day there was a supercell thunderstorm across the uk ... I was shocked 😯 I think there's more to death than meets the eye

Nothing, you're dead.
You get one shot at life so make it count.

Nobody knows. We can all have a thought about what happens but until we're dead it's just guess work.

Nothing. It is just how it was before you were born.

Nothing. Your body rots.

Nothing.

The afterlife is our way of trying to get a bit more/better, that this is not all there is.

Nothing. We no longer exist, just like before we were born.

I definitely think there is something. Although what that something is who honestly knows.
I was watching a documentary which stated that the conscious survives bodily death. In fact one women who had clinically died and was brought back through resuscitation was able to say exactly what was said in the room.
Apparently energy and memories can not be destroyed.
There fore if energy cannot be destroyed could it be possible that these memories make their way into the mind/brain of a developing embryo and the fetus. Could this explain reincarnation.
There has been proven cases of Reincarnation. Look at the case of Jennie
Cockell (I think her name is). She was the reincarnation or picked up energy from a women in Ireland named Mary Sutton.
She knew things that she couldn't possibly have known. She actually met up with her children from a previous life.
There is a film about it called Yesterdays children. It's definitely worth watching

Great thread, btw.

My logic brain says nothing happens. We just leave our physical body and that's it.
But the fact that we don't know sometimes plays with my mind a bit.

I think you just die and that’s it. It’s slightly terrifying tbh.

As a Christian, I believe I will be reunited, in the loving presence of God, with my much missed DH who predeceased me. Christ gave us his promise that he went to prepare a place for us - that “where he is in glory, so shall his servant be”, as the lovely old hymn has it.
The bible also tells us that “God shall wipe away all tears, and there shall be no more sorrow, neither death nor dying”.
Incidentally, to the PP who claimed a patient came back from being “clinically dead” - er, no. They may have been resuscitated from a cardiac arrest, but that is not death!
Nobody comes back from being brain dead. Unless we count the miracles in the New Testament, of Lazarus, Jairus’ daughter, and Jesus himself, which were performed by God - we mere human doctors can’t actually raise the dead!

Loads will happen after you die, but it will be nothing to do with you as you will be dead!

We are the same as the leaves on the trees and the birds in the sky - organic matter that’s dies and then rots. Just because we are the most intelligent creatures on earth does not make us any different - we are organic matter.

Nobody knows for certain but personally I like to think there is a heaven and all your loved ones are hanging out and waiting for you when you die. When you die your soul goes to heaven and your body goes to the ground. I’d hate to think it’s totally the end. It brings me comfort to think I’ll be reunited with those I’ve lost but everyone’s entitled to believe whatever they wish but it works for me 👍

Funny how everyone is so sure their opinion is right. You can be no more sure that there is nothing than you can that there is something. I personally believe that there is a heaven so that is a big comfort to me. Obviously l can't be sure but neither can anyone who thinks there is nothing. As l will be dead when it happens l won't care but living with hope every day while l am alive is great. And when my dps passed away it did help.

As others have said, it must be the same as before you were born - you just don't exist. Great quote from Stephen Hawking.

To be honest, I find the thought that it's game over when you die far more reassuring than some sort of afterlife. And as for reincarnation - so many people in the world live appalling lives, who wants to think about the possibility of being reborn when it could be into a life of pain and suffering?
