Quotation from Quintillian, I believe (unless someone was fibbing about that too).

Old thread here:

TheClaws Mon 30-Jul-18 03:43:47

Thanks lion! Apt thread title ... Quintilian also said “Those who wish to appear wise among fools, among the wise seem foolish,” and this seems to fit 45 beautifully too.

Minimammoth Mon 30-Jul-18 03:48:56

Impeachment - Is it just a matter of time? Some stats I read today, can’t remember where, suggest that the polls are saying people are thinking he should be. Impeached that is.
Thank you Lion. Although my fear and stress levels go up and down, this is one of the most interesting threads on MN.

ohmymimi Mon 30-Jul-18 08:01:57

Thank you for that new thread, lion.

Morning morning brew.

Why Donald Trump attacks the media

The president wants positive news coverage for himself and critical coverage of his adversaries. "Fake news", "enemy of the people" and all the other media-bashing is simply a means to achieving that goal.

In sport, the strategy is called "working the referee". It's the same idea in politics - but the stakes are much higher.

There's more to it than that, however. Mr Trump doesn't just want the referee's "calls" to go his way. His goal is to question the reliability the referee entirely.

Impeachment (or whichever amendment would let Cabinet take him out of office) plays into DT's conspiracy DeepState claims. Being voted out in 2020 is the best outcome (many argue).

I predict constitutional reform (amendments) after DT leaves office. To curb & define presidential powers, and possibly to reform electoral college rules.

We need a huge blue wave more than ever November 2018.

checking in, nothing to add, but always reading

Interesting quote on one of lionheart's links from the last thread:

Bannon to Kochs: ‘Shut up and get with the program’

Charles Koch is a good man, but 100 days before an election that will determine the direction of the country is not the time to tell us that you are prepared to work with Democrats that support parts of your progressive agenda,” Bannon said.

“It's wrong, it's stupid and it shows contempt for the hardworking grassroots folks that delivered the victory that got your tax cut,” he added.

As one of the commenters points out, this is an admission by Bannon that the tax cut was for the benefit of the ultra rich, riding the backs of folks lower down. And this was his doing.

Posted this on old thread by mistake:
Thanks for the threads.
Means I can converse intelligently with US citizens I meet on trains, and I seem to meet a lot of them!

PerkingFaintly Mon 30-Jul-18 09:05:00

Gosh, how do those convos go, borntobequiet?

Are the Americans you talk to mostly pro or anti-Trump, or neither? What sort of things do they feel the need to unburden themselves about to a stranger?

TheNorthWestPawsage Mon 30-Jul-18 09:24:26

Still reading - thanks to all.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes Mon 30-Jul-18 10:22:50

Thanks for the new thread, thinking of you AcrossthePond, hope you're doing okay.

PhilODox Mon 30-Jul-18 10:27:02

Sorry, I never come on these threads (because my MNing is so sporadic, I cannot keep up!) but fantastic title smile

borntobequiet Mon 30-Jul-18 11:26:11

They are anti-Trump. I haven't met a pro Trump American on a train. They talk to me because I talk to them! I gave one a lift to his destination because of problems with the rail replacement bus and we have kept in contact. And a couple offered to pay my fare when they found I was going on the anti-Trump march.
But I talk to people constantly when travelling as I mostly travel on my own...

borntobequiet Mon 30-Jul-18 11:27:24

And they also think Brexit is shite.

MissMarplesKnitting Mon 30-Jul-18 11:30:23

He seems particularly unhinged this weekend.

Wonder what's coming down the line?!!

PerkingFaintly Mon 30-Jul-18 11:32:02

Oh that's lovely, borntobequiet!

OhYouBadBadKitten Mon 30-Jul-18 11:45:42

jumping in on the thread smile

Hello to yolofish and Philodox.

'“Let me say, this administration believes in the freedom of the press,” Pence told Bartiromo. “President Trump and our entire administration have provided extraordinary access to the media. The president answers so many questions. I can assure you we’ll continue to do that.”

The vice president added a caveat: “Maintaining the decorum that’s due at the White House is an issue. I’m very confidence with any network this will ensure the access of the American people to this administration. This is incredible progress.”'

lionheart Mon 30-Jul-18 12:22:53

And in the spirit of decorum, I give you Big Foot Erotica (who knew?) to go with the white supremacy of this candidate.

lionheart Mon 30-Jul-18 12:26:13

I don't know if we had this (there is a DM version which I won't post):

Roussette Mon 30-Jul-18 12:28:40

Thanks Lion for new thread, apt title..

Something must be happening, complete twitter verbal diarrhoea by 45, rambling, desperate and incoherent, 10 long tweets whinging, moaning, lyng, accusing, name calling.

Would anyone ever ever think the office of POTUS could ever have sunk so low? I knew he was going to be bad, but never realised how bad it could become...

Roussette Mon 30-Jul-18 12:30:34

I've just watched VPs interview talking about decorum. How can he keep a straight face, given the complete lack of decorum shown by Trump. Laughable. I hope when (not if) Trump goes, he does too, because he is more eloquent but far more dangerous

lionheart Mon 30-Jul-18 12:30:49

'Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said she hopes to stay on the Supreme Court until the age of 90.

"I'm now 85," Ginsburg said on Sunday. "My senior colleague, Justice John Paul Stevens, he stepped down when he was 90, so think I have about at least five more years."

She has already hired law clerks for at least two more terms.'
