AIBU?

AIBU - wasteful husband in holiday

We are in holiday, only DH has got drinks. At breakfast everything is a buffet, other than hot drinks, which they take an order for at the table. He always just asks for coffee. They bring a flask of coffee and a jug of milk. He only ever has black coffee. The milk goes to waste. He gets annoyed if I asked him to only ask for black coffee so that they don’t waste the jug of milk.

Am I being unreasonable, after 9 days to be able to expect him to do this, rather than me having to intervene and ask for black coffee only? He only has to say ‘black coffee please’ rather than ‘coffee please’ - it’s not onerous!

youre on holiday

try to relax instead of causing drama over nothing

honeylulu · 18/07/2018 06:33

I agree with you but to be fair when we've asked (we only drink black coffee) the milk issue turns up anyway. It happens in the uk as well as abroad so not a language issue. There is just a set way of doing things.

Shoxfordian · 18/07/2018 06:33

Does it actually matter? Relax, you're on holiday

honeylulu · 18/07/2018 06:33

issue = just

ShatnersBassoon · 18/07/2018 06:35

You could butt in and ask them to take the milk back when they bring it, if the alternative is to seethe looking at it.

Peanutbuttercups21 · 18/07/2018 06:41

Surely they just reheat the milk again for the next person

SandyFagina · 18/07/2018 06:45

Why are you picking fights over nothing when on holiday?

changeyourbedsheets · 18/07/2018 06:49

What a waste! I'd definitely be saying something.

Ansumpasty · 18/07/2018 06:51

You are on holiday. Loosen up!!

larrygrylls · 18/07/2018 06:52

Is your husband an adult? Has he paid for his share of the holiday? What business is it of yours if he ‘wastes’ a few pence worth of milk?

How would you enjoy having your behaviour policed? Never ordered food and decided you did not want it?

Foreign holidays are a complete ‘waste’ of the world’s fuel resources if you want to go down the self righteous root.

ferntwist · 18/07/2018 06:55

It would annoy me too OP! Probably best to just turn a blind eye.

butlerswharf · 18/07/2018 06:56

It sounds like you're a control freak. Can't you all just relax and enjoy the holiday.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 18/07/2018 06:56

"Surely they just reheat the milk again for the next person"

Ewww, hopefully not! Can you imagine if the same jug of milk went back and forth to a few tables getting reheated and left to sit each time?! If it goes out to a table it should be tipped out on return!

eurochick · 18/07/2018 06:57

I always ask for black coffee. About 50% of the time (and closer to 100% of the time at hotel breakfasts) they bring milk anyway. Chill - you're on holiday.

edwinbear · 18/07/2018 06:58

We are also on holiday. Buffet breakfast went like this this morning:

DH: coffee please
Me: cappuccino please
DC: please can we have hot chocolate

Me: kids let’s go to the buffet

Kids: generally run about like nutters

DD: can I have pancakes, waffles and a (queue for 5 mins) fried egg

DS: I’d like yoghurt but there are no bowls, Mummy please can you get me a bowl, I’d also like the mini sausages the opposite side to the buffet to DD’s egg queue and fruit which is in a totally separate area

Me: wistfully look at the mimosa section and spies a cinnamon bun but hell will freeze over before I can carry anything else

Me: Carry everything over to the table, I make half a suggestion of getting my own breakfast but then DC see the croissants and we start all over again.

Meantime, DH has his (hot) coffee and halfway through his rather lovely looking breakfast of cheese and ham.

If milk is your only problem, YADBU Grin

FFS 🙄

It’s like that bit in The Office when Tim puts Gareth’s stapler in jelly and Brent looks at the camera and virtue signals about how much he hates waste.

Mummyoflittledragon · 18/07/2018 07:04

That would drive me nuts too. Just say no milk. It’s not hard.

happypoobum · 18/07/2018 07:05

You hate him don't you? Grin

Have a nice holiday.

saganorenscarandcoat · 18/07/2018 07:07

Such a non issue. You must be very easily wound up

Asmallrole · 18/07/2018 07:09

Edwinbear
Divide and conquer is my saying for kids. You mention a DS and a DD ? That's one kid each in my book.

Oblomov18 · 18/07/2018 07:12

Ease up! You sound like a control freak.

elQuintoConyo · 18/07/2018 07:12

YASOOOOOONBU!

Get him to syphon it back into the cow.

What would drive me nuts on a family is my OH slinking off to their phone and bitching about me over a complete non issue.

Oh and if your abroad and your DH is just asking for coffee and not mentioning milk then them bringing him milk is probably nothing to do with how he’s asking. I’ve found usually you have to ask for coffee with milk to get milk so it must be something the hotel automatically does.

implantsandaDyson · 18/07/2018 07:12

You "intervene" when he orders his coffee - I'm confused is he your husband or child?
I only drink black coffee - I usually mention it, 9 times out of 10 the milk comes anyway. I also used to work in hospitality/catering the staff won't be throwing the poured milk away.

Itchytights · 18/07/2018 07:14

FFS.

Really????

You must having some shit holiday to actually write a post about this non issue on Mn.

Go and have a shag. You’ll feel better Grin
