What if it had been another mother with a prank occupying the wheelchair space? Would she have felt entitled to ask her to move?

Pram not prank

That’s awful, poor woman.

Wellthisunexpected · 17/07/2018 21:16

That's awful. Everyone knows disability aid trump's pram. It's common sense.

CaveMaman · 17/07/2018 21:17

I think the problem mostly lies with the train guard who humiliated the woman with the mobility scooter, though of course the mother with the pram was out of order too. Those spaces are for people with disabilities first, not prams. The guard got it wrong and should be sacked for gross misconduct.

Sirzy · 17/07/2018 21:17

It’s shocking!

I know the company have come out and apologised but it should never have happened in the first place. How could anyone think that a pram had more right to be in the space for wheelchairs than a mobility scooter Hmm

Hygge · 17/07/2018 21:23

That's awful, what a horrible thing to do to her.

They had no right or reason to ask her to move.

NewYearNewMe18 · 17/07/2018 21:34

A different article (with more depth) explained that the lady was in a seat, and her scooter in the disability space. That was the basis of the guards decision.

Unfortunately some people stick rigidly to the rule book, which probably said 'wheelchair' instead of 'mobility device'

CrispbuttyNo1 · 17/07/2018 21:39

I really do suspect there’s a lot more to this than it says in the article.

PitterPatterOfBigFeet · 17/07/2018 21:42

I can't believe anyone asked her to leave and I can't believe any Guard wouldn't have the sense to tell the woman with the pram to jog on.

FuckPants · 17/07/2018 21:51

The train guard is an absolute cunt.

I really do suspect there’s a lot more to this than it says in the article.

I doubt it if GWR staff members were “collectively horrified” after viewing the video.

Italiangreyhound · 17/07/2018 21:53

Shocking.

nocoolnamesleft · 17/07/2018 21:57

Fucking appalling.

JennyCloud · 17/07/2018 22:00

WTF! The train company and the pushchair woman should be ashamed!

Shocking!

FatSally · 17/07/2018 22:03

Why isn't the full video available to view then?

I also feel there must be more to it because I can't believe that anyone would be so stupid as to make someone on a mobility scooter move for someone in a pram.

FuckPants · 17/07/2018 22:05

Oh my sweet summer child...

drnectarine · 17/07/2018 22:05

'A different article (with more depth) explained that the lady was in a seat, and her scooter in the disability space. That was the basis of the guards decision.'

Where else could she have left the scooter while she was on the train?

Becca19962014 · 17/07/2018 22:09

Her full video is on her YouTube channel here m.youtube.com/watch?v=FpHm7gNf7DA&feature=share it's over six minutes.

BBC never put videos that long up. I've not seen all of it but that's what's been sent (from what I've seen posted elsewhere) to GWR.

Armi · 17/07/2018 22:11

That poor woman. Some people are just fuckers.

GreenMeerkat · 17/07/2018 22:15

That's appalling!!!

Iran's can be folded and babies held, what on Earth was this poor lady supposed to do. Actually disgusting!

GreenMeerkat · 17/07/2018 22:15

Iran???

Prams*

Oswin · 17/07/2018 22:15

Absolute fucking bastard humiliating her like that. He wanted her to folddown her scooter. Bloody hell do you know how hard that is ffs. It would have been easier for the woman with the pram to fold the pushchair.

ragged · 19/07/2018 04:27

"A different article (with more depth) explained that the lady was in a seat, and her scooter in the disability space. That was the basis of the guards decision."

If true, that would change the story a lot.

Why?I don’t think it changes the story one bit.
Scooters are harder to fold than prams.

DGRossetti · 19/07/2018 06:59

Just part and parcel of being less able.

Seems in 2018, freight trumps disability ...

www.disabledgo.com/blog/2018/07/scandal-of-new-rail-station-set-to-be-built-without-step-free-access-to-trains/

Just personal observation, but seems accessibility is slowly disappearing, not getting better. Out of sight, out of mind (again).

PrincessPear · 19/07/2018 07:06

That’s appalling.

It does highlight the need for transport to be more accessible for disabled people and families though. I’ve always thought what happens is multiple disabled people, multiple prams, or a disabled person with a pram gets on. It’s very badly designed, as if being disabled or having a pram is an afterthought.
