i've been feeling very happy since loosing weight and with the hot weather i bought myself some new summer clothes. i found a nice pair of shorts and really liked them until.. dp took a photo of me from the back. the back of my legs are absolutely covered in cellulite, it looks so bad Sad

i'm so embarrassed i've been going round in short shorts oblivious. is there anything i can do to improve the appearance or do i just never get my legs out in public again?

Sad

Nah, fuck that! If you love the shorts - WEAR THE SHORTS

Life is too, erm, short (sorry!!!) But I have never ever in my entire life seen someone wearing shorts in hot weather and thought, "oh no!" And anyone who does is an absolute twat.

Wear the shorts.

OwlinaTree · 15/07/2018 22:59

Depends. Do you care? There's not much you can do about cellulite really. Loads of people have it. Some people will notice, most won't. Do you care what strangers think?

You could use fake tan, or buy longer shorts, or just accept it. It will be autumn in another month, problem solved!!

SoftSheen · 15/07/2018 23:00

If you like the shorts, wear them- no-one will look twice at a bit of cellulite. Most women have some.

Personally, I find long linen trousers cooler and more comfortable.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 15/07/2018 23:02

I think cellulite is more accepted now... if your clothes fit you and you are comfortable, wear them.

It’s the muffin tops and camel toes I wince at.... it cannot be comfortable to squeeze into clothes a couple of sizes too small, especially in this weather! 😬

argumentativefeminist · 15/07/2018 23:02

Pretty sure every adult woman has cellulite somewhere! It's so, so, so normal. Mine is all over my legs, I've got stretch marks everywhere too, even the back of my knees! I think of it like a birthmark - you might notice it on someone else, but you wouldn't make either an internal or a vocal judgement if you were a nice person (which most people are!). Wear the shorts and whatever the hell else you want. Be proud that this skin and this body has carried you through your life and everything you've done with it.

KarinVogel · 15/07/2018 23:02

Wear the shorts !

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/07/2018 23:03

I agree life is too short. (pun intended)
Well done and congratulations on your weight loss.
I know it seems like it when you're feeling down about yourself. I fucking despise and refuse pictures. However a little cellulite is no harm. Plus Cellulite is nothing to do with your size.

smellmybacon · 15/07/2018 23:05

i have been imagining people sniggering behind my back Blush

i suppose i can't ever think of a time i've noticed it on someone else

I have wobbly thighs and loose skin on my thighs as well. I wear short shorts. I don't give a flying fuck what other people think about it personally. No one has ever pointed & laughed at me, no children have run away screaming, no one has vomited at the sight. All they see is someone dressed appropriately for the weather. It's all good.

argumentativefeminist · 15/07/2018 23:07

I'm sure nobody's been sniggering, OP. If they are, they'd be the kind of hypocrites to tease someone for something that they 'secretly' have/experience too, and those people are just pathetic and not worth your time or emotional energy.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 15/07/2018 23:08

I’m a UK size ten, I have cellulite.

I’d rather not have it, but I keep my weight down and exercise a fair bit (or did before getting pregnant) and it made no odds.

Now I just wobble 🤷🏻‍♀️

Keep up your journey, but don’t hide away whilst on it. A tan improves the look of cellulite anyway 👌

TroubledLichen · 15/07/2018 23:09

Wear the shorts! Most women, regardless of weight have some. Get body brushing if it bothers you but it really shouldn’t.

LittleBirdBlues · 15/07/2018 23:09

I've never been overweight but I also have cellulite on the back of my legs! It's just a normal thing that happens to most women when they get older (and sometimes from a young age too of course). If somebody doesn't like it that's their problem entirely! Enjoy the summer in your lovely shorts!

MissusGeneHunt · 15/07/2018 23:10

I saw a really pretty lady at the lake my DS and I were at today. She was in shorts. She was pretty not because she was 'traditionally' attractive but because she was smiling and laughing, and carried herself confidently. Clearly I was instantly envious of her, and desperately mentally tried to find fault! Couldn't, she had more weight than I did, still attractive, more blotchy thighs, still attractive... Etc etc.

It was her stance and demeanor that shone. Taught me a stark lesson at 47!

OP, bet you're lovely!! Wear those shorts!!!

Wallywobbles · 15/07/2018 23:10

Friend at school said brown fat looks better than white fat. Good philosophy for life.

Fluffyears · 15/07/2018 23:13

I have bad circulation so I get cellulite even had it when I was super skinny (bmi of 20). You can improve it with dry skin brushing but you have to do it every single day, I usually do it before getting into the shower and drinking loads and loads of water. After showering I massage the area with oil really hard to get yonbloid flowing. It is just normal though so try not to fixate, the photo probably caught a bad angle.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/07/2018 23:13

I've been imagining people sniggering behind my back.

What I'm.going to say no is meant with kindness......However. You're not that important to people. No one is. People have got enough worries of their own.
You could be 30 stone go out naked wearing a fig leaf to cover your modesty and no one would give a shiny shit.

Nuggetsandwich · 15/07/2018 23:13

If you've never noticed it before it was probably the camera angle. Don't worry about it and enjoy wearing your shorts!

TiredPony · 15/07/2018 23:21

Oh don't worry OP! Be proud of your weight loss. I wore short shorts out today for the first time ever and I gave no fucks what anyone thought of my fat white hairy legs - it was very liberating!

Rory786 · 15/07/2018 23:23

well done on your weight loss OP.

Enjoy the lovely sun!

StillMedusa · 15/07/2018 23:23

Meh.. I'm 50, and look it. Tonight my dh took a pic of me snoring on the sofa after a coma inducing carvery dinner and put it on bloody FB. I was wearing shorts, with a food baby belly and my mouth open. NOT my best look!

I AM going to smother him in his sleep for that, but the shorts and my 50 yr old legs... so WHAT!? They are just legs and they don't look like a 20 year old's any more, but they work ok and it's too hot for trousers. Wear those shorts!

alphajuliet123 · 15/07/2018 23:39

Urgh, I want to be able to wear shorts but am too self conscious. I'm in my 40's size 10-12 with long-ish slim-ish legs which look good in jeans or skirts, but have cellulite since having kids (and stress-eating shit loads of biscuits). Gone are my days of tiny cut-offs so I might make some not-too-short ones out of old jeans.

Im slim, fairly cellulite free but have a nasty psoriasis blip on my shin and an accidentally self inflicted burn scar on the other. Rock the shorts with pride, my lovely.. Everyone has issues

MintyChops · 15/07/2018 23:52

Well done on losing weight, it’s bloody hard to do. Wear the shorts and bollocks to the cellulite, most people have it, nothing to be ashamed of.

BillywigSting · 15/07/2018 23:57

I actually really love seeing women wearing short shorts when they have a bit of cellulite /stretch marks/thick thighs etc because it makes me feel a million times better about my own insecurities. Especially as nine times out ten they still look amazing despite the imperfections, sometimes even because of them.

So if you love the shorts wear the shorts.

You never know, you might just be giving someone else permission to do the same.
