DS1 13 months would not go to sleep tonight so DP took him in the pushchair for a walk. He came across an absolutely massive snake in the park. Someone had let him out of a large tank apparently (not in the pic). Lots of bystanders taking pics. I know people can have these in their homes, but in public??? Cannot be legal right?

I'm a regular but name changed as I knew people would ask where this was and obviously telling the location could be outing. This is in Roberts Park, Saltaire, West Yorkshire.

This is for real.

WTF?!!!!

To think this cannot be legal...

This gives me nightmares! I'm so so scared of snakes.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 15/07/2018 21:57

Did you not think to call the police or RSPCA?

Bambamber · 15/07/2018 21:59

It is legal. Irresponsible, but legal

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 15/07/2018 21:59

Was the owner taking it for a walk?

ElenOfTheWays · 15/07/2018 21:59

No idea if it's legal. But if it is, it shouldn't be.
That's a BIG fucking bastard! Grin

BootsMagoots · 15/07/2018 22:01

The tank must be frigging huge.

Barbie222 · 15/07/2018 22:02

That's not good. RSPCA? It will struggle as soon as the temperature drops. Are you sure there wasn't anyone "owning" it? Taking it for a walk?.... although I'm sure they could move faster than an adult if they wanted to!! I know that park, so weird

HarrietKettleWasHere · 15/07/2018 22:02

It's legal to take your massive pet snake for a walk in the park?!

JacquesHammer · 15/07/2018 22:02

Oh I’d LOVE to see that!

It’s not illegal. Foolish possibly.

OftenHangry · 15/07/2018 22:02

Well, it's hot enough for him to get some fresh air, I guess.

Was the owner around? These are usually really harmless, because they are well fed and are used to people not being food.

Barbie222 · 15/07/2018 22:02

Ah I see someone was with it - but they can move bloody fast

steff13 · 15/07/2018 22:03

Did the owner abandon it in the park, or was he just letting it out for a walk? What if it "ran" away?

QueenOfCatan · 15/07/2018 22:04

That's mad. Was the owner around or had they abandoned it?!

wherethewildrosesgrow · 15/07/2018 22:05

If it’s venomous/dangerous then I’m sure the owner could be charged with some kind of public order offence maybe

frankie001 · 15/07/2018 22:05

It should have been on a lead.

user1481143387 · 15/07/2018 22:07

DP says owner was taking it for a walk...

What if it gets approached by another animal like a dog?!

Marmablade · 15/07/2018 22:09

I would not go to sleep if I saw this.

No no no no no. Police.

user1481143387 · 15/07/2018 22:09

@frankie001 can you put them on a lead or were you being facetious?

It had escaped and the owners were found and it was returned safely. I thought l was scared of snakes it was beautiful.

wherethewildrosesgrow · 15/07/2018 22:10

I would imagine only one would remain to slither away

How did they move the cage?!! It'd be huge and heavy. Rather large snake - what breed is it? (did it have a lead role in Anaconda?)

HarrietKettleWasHere · 15/07/2018 22:10

I love snakes but that does not belong in the local park or in a table

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 15/07/2018 22:10

That can't be real.
