To wonder why we aren't rioting in the streets?

So:
The government is about to begin stockpiling processed food in case the country is plunged into chaos by a “no deal” Brexit.
In just over half a year the UK is going to be wrecked for decades to come. We're looking at rationing, for God's sake. Power cuts. Mass unemployment. The loss of our employment and human rights. The new Health Secretary has allegedly received 10s of 1000s from the head of a thinktank that wants to abolish the NHS. There is no plan for the future. Not even the most ardent of the Brexiter politicians that got us into this mess are pretending that we aren't looking at massive economic and social problems.
Isn't it time for us as ordinary citizens who, with our children, will pay for this fiasco to start demonstrating, meeting our MPs, doing anything else that might possibly help to stop this? I don't just mean the demonstration that took place in London, and the others around the country - I mean serious numbers of people, making their voices heard. Because we will all suffer the very serious consequences of this mess.

I don't think any transition out of Europe will be easy but isn't this catastrophising a little? Sources would be good....

I totally agree with you OP about where Brexit is heading, it isn't going to be pretty, but at the end of the day, mass physical political participation is severely low here for lots of reasons. I dont think any cause short of "literally stop the apocalypse" could change that, and Brexit isn't at that level yet.

Your source is the Sun?

Jesus wept.

Report

The Sun broke the story about stockpiling, but many other papers are running it.
Why don't you deal with the question, instead of shouting "Fake News" at anyone / any newspapers that say something you'd rather they didn't.

It's in the Independent online too. inews.co.uk/news/politics/the-government-is-about-to-start-stockpiling-processed-food-in-case-of-no-deal-brexit/

The associated stockpiling of drugs and "business goods" have also been covered by the Sunday Times and the Financial Times. It isn't all a massive conspiracy theory, although the sun article probably does overexaggerate a bit as usual, but that's only one of the issues at stake.

OK OP, post a link to a credible journo's article, I'll go and read it and come back and comment.

If you were to check the references to most of the articles written over the last 2 years or more, mostly labelled as 'project fear', then think forward about what they were saying you might just start to get an inkling of how bad things may well get.
The Sun is very late in the day mentionng these things but if you take some of the hyperbole out is essentially correct.

Danniz · 11/07/2018 22:45

You do get it that most of our processed food comes from the EU? And that we don't have any kind of agreement or any prospect of any kind of agreement with the EU yet?
So why do you find it so hard to believe that the government has (finally) started stockpiling?

Credible link provided above to The Independent. No saints, but not the sun. The journo in question seems to have been writing for them for a while on heavy and serious political stuff.

What would these masses of people be saying? If it's not to leave I think you'd find more people saying they must. That's what the vote was for.

That is true though OP, this should be in the Brexit section.
