AIBU?

To wonder what the hell this is and how it got here?

Posting here for traffic. Just had a very weird thing happen and neither DH nor I can fathom what has happened:

Just went up to our en suite bathroom and noticed a blue-black blob in the sink. It looked a bit like someone had half eaten a blackcurrant and spat it out so I thought it was just the kids. Or maybe even a bird poo of some sort. There is a sky light window above the sink so this was kind of conceivable. But then I thought about it and the kids haven’t been eating berries.

Then I looked over at the bath and there were two splodges of what looks like black ink in the bath. Nothing anywhere else. The ceiling above the bath is clean. The shower is at the other end of the bath and not leaking black stuff.

I called DH and he said it hadn’t been there when he brushed DD’s teeth a couple of hours ago - and no one has been in that room since then!

In the interest of science I stuck a cotton bud in it and it was quite liquid, didn’t really have a smell.

What the hell can it be? Pictures attached - I had rinsed the one in the sink before I thought about it but it had more of what looked like a lump in it. Or a more concentrated patch.

I’m sure there is some sort of mundane explanation but at the moment we can’t think what it is! If something sprayed in the window it would have been a very impressive trajectory through the velux window and even if so - what the hell was it outside?

Pic of the bath splatters and the window which is about a meter away from the bath!

To wonder what the hell this is and how it got here?

now I see it-it looks like ink to me could it possibly be a berry a bird has shat out and its landed in your sink (bit tenuous though)

Maybe a bird has been in via the roof window and it's been eating berries.

Is it too early for elderberries, and bird poo from birds eating them?

Maybe a bird had a couple of blueberries in its mouth and was flying over your window/stood on it and dropped them?

Was there a bee in the house? We once had a room covered in bee diahorrea....had to repaint it!

Theories so far:

  1. Some unknown substance squirted in from our neighbours garden up and in through the window, landing in a small splatter of 3 splodges in sink and bath. Possible I guess but what?

  1. A bird got in through the window, did a weird blue-black poo and then got out again without anyone noticing.

  1. the kids... but our 2 year old can’t wven reach the sink and both kids are clean! If they had been involved in something like this they would be covered in black stuff. And they both had a bath earlier!

Do you have DC old enough to have a fountain pen by any chance?? Or could have got hold of some ink?

Has someone opened or closed the skylight? Could be oil spatters from window handle mechanism or hinges maybe??

How old is DD? Could she have gone back in the bathroom and spilt something?

Have you seen the film 'The Blob'? Started out like that. You need to draw a ring round them so you can see if they get bigger.

Interesting theories:

  • no bee that I have seen. But will google bee diarrhoea
  • the one in the sink did look a teeny bit like bird poo but the ones in the bath not so much. And the bath isn’t under the window, it’s about a meter away to the side of the room so bird would have had to come IN to crap there. Also the way the window opens means that anything dropped from above wouldn’t come in, just roll down the window. It would need to be sprayed in from the side IYSWIM

Could it be something that's fallen into some drops of water leftover from hand washing/showering? Maybe some coloured paper or make up or something?!

So odd!

Perhaps an insect of some sort has laid eggs? Or else agree with OP up thread that it's bird berry poo.

No fountain pens in the house and kids don’t have access to ink. And they are both clean! They are 2 & 5.

Will check skylight hinges but don’t think it’s rhis as none of the splodges are directly under the window hinges, it’s all to the left of the window.

No one has had a shower or bath in there since this morning and DD only brushed her teeth in there after she had a bath at grandma’s house so she was already clean. Plus DH swears it wasn’t there then!

Ok so not bee diarrhoea - that’s more brown! But thank you bridget I had no idea that was a thing! Envy (not envy).

Escaped octopus most likely explanation at present! Grin
