Argument with friend?

She messaged me to ask to borrow money.

There have been 2 instances in the past where I’ve paid for her in good faith (train ticket, concert) that she then decided that she couldn’t go and never paid me back.

I said no because of these instances and she went mad at me. Now said she can’t afford the holiday we planned to go on (nothing booked yet.)

Just to point out, I live alone so therefore have to pay all my bills and she lives at home and earns at least 6K more a year than me.

If you haven’t booked anything you won’t be going on holiday with this friend. I think you were quite right to say no!

You have your very own CF.

Say no. Stay firm. YANBU.

She's not your friend OP - she's a C.F surely?

She sent me 10 texts after I said no Confused saying she can’t be bothered with this, having things held against her and how it’s not her fault.

It’s funny how the CFs are always happy to take the money but reticent to return it/honour commitments.

As for flipping it because you had the audacity (in her mind) to say no. Pfft. Block and move on.

Sounds like she needs to put her big girl pants on and take responsibility for her own actions!

Ha ha ha! Poor her hey.
Advise her that even if the past isn’t taken into consideration, you have every right to decline to lend someone money.

What you should do is block her and disengage from the 'friendship'.

I would probably call her out on who's fault she thinks it is that she doesn't pay people back?

She can't afford the holiday you planned because you refused to give her the money for it?

Wow.

Will you still have your holiday, OP?

Good for you for standing up for yourself.

Stick to your guns OP, don't let her take the piss any more

It’s fortunate that you found out now that she cannot afford the holiday or you could have been paying for both of you with little chance of getting any money from her

In fact don’t block her from social media. Tag the fucker in your lovely holiday photos with a cheery “wish you were here”

Tell her you can't be bothered with people that don't pay you back

Not that it matters, but out of curiosity how much did she want to borrow?

Wow.

No she wanted to borrow £50. She was saying she couldn’t afford our potential holiday was her having a tantrum basically ... she knew I really wanted to go and now that’s not going to happen so I suppose she wanted to hurt me.

I bet she owes her mum and dad loads! Her mum will probably be on here somewhere, complaining about her.

Is she the only person who's free to go on holiday? If so, tell us your budget and we'll find you something.

You really do not have to justify yourself, it's always ok to refuse to "lend" money to someone!

The easy way is to say you are broke and don't have a penny to spare, but the honest way that you don't want to is fine too Grin
In your case, she really is a CF! You need better friends.

"having things held against her" = other people having a functioning memory.
