what is it with cats?

Neighbour's cat keeps coming to our back door, crying to be let in. We've never let her in. She's just now hopped up on our window sill, giving out to us. We've never paid her any attention, given her any food, given her the least encouragement. Surely at this stage she should have realised that we're just not interested and she's barking up the wrong tree, so to speak.
Why do cats do this? Does she think that we should be overjoyed that she's picked us to do her bidding? If we'd shown her any kindness, given her food, would we now be her new owners? Is this how it happens when people steal someone else's cat? Why won't she be told?

Just as we have Go the Fuck to Sleep about children, we should have Go the Fuck Away for when our feline masters get their slaves mixed up.

The more you ignore what she wants, the more she'll demand it, you can't train a cat in the same way you do a dog and yes, she does believe you should be grateful to be blessed with her presence. I love cats, they will not be told...

We have had two cats for a number of years, but we always lock them out of our bedroom at night. In our last house on a hot balmy night, I had the window open. I was awoken by a cat snuggling my foot - it was not my fucking cat! Bloody bastard thing decided to waltz in and settle on my bed. 😠

I came in to my house one day to find my neighbours fucking cat in my kids bed. It came in the kitchen window!! It had jumped o the window ledge a few times and I had chased it away. After it came in my house though I was fed up, next time it sat on the window ledge making it's horrendous noises I sprayed it with a water gun. Never came back to the window.

Why won’t she be told?

She is cat. You are not cat. Won’t you learn your place, woman? Good grief Grin

Cats are dicks. I mean love the furry bastards (I have five) but they really are the devil’s minions.

All you can do is either speak to the neighbours or ignore the cat. But speaking from experience, they do not take a telling.

I assume that your next door neighbours are rubbish cat slaves. Is he or she looking at you with big eyes? DD found (enticed) a cat in the garden three years ago just as we were heading away for 3 weeks. No microchip and she seems to have now moved in.

OP you don't own cats they own you, and some have multiple slaves in different households. You don't even need to feed some of them to become a slave as if they decide they like somewhere in your home for a nap they will keep coming back.

When cats see someone they like, they narrow their eyes.

When humans see someone they dislike, they narrow their eyes.

So the signal gets sent out with one meaning, but is received with another.

My neighbors cat has made it his life’s mission to live in my house. He climbs in the window - he has even fallen into a sink of washing up before just to get in. He is very persistent. I think he likes my quiet house. I don’t mind him, our own cat died last year so this is a bit like rent a cat, all the petting with none of the responsibility. He goes home at 8pm on the dot every night, I don’t feed him anything or encourage him.

Where I used to live, one of the neighbour's cats had a specialty of B and E. He would then spray on the landing and leave again Angry

As PP say, cats are dicks, and are even bigger dicks once they realise you don't want/like them Grin

I cane upstairs one day to find a cat I had never seen before sitting comfortably outside my bathroom door licking his paws.

It looked up at me with an expression that said,“Do you mind? You’re disturbing me.”

The random cat made me feel like an intruder in my own home!!

However - I absolutely LOVE cats and I think that whenever there is a thread about them all cat owners should post pictures of their cats!!

This is what my little tibby wibby woo (well, Tybalt actually Grin) does when he looks at me! I feel very privileged because he's a very timid little boy who took a long time to settle and who runs and hides if anyone comes to the house.

My darling Romeo does it too. And he's a big, stroppy, "macho" cat. I love my boys! Grin

Cats are definitely arseholes though!
