All they seem to represent us keeping the rich, rich and the poor, poor. There doesn't seem to be that many rich people so why do they get so many votes?

The very rich are a tiny minority. The “man in the street” must have voted Tory for them to be in. It’s not to do with the very rich.

Lottapianos · 18/06/2018 21:14

A friend of mine votes Tory. She was an NHS worker for 20 years on a low salary, is now retired and is far from wealthy. I don't understand it, although she also reads the Daily Mail every day and laps it all up so.......

aaronburr · 18/06/2018 21:15

There's a lot of selfish and stupid people out there.

Jasmina456 · 18/06/2018 21:15

Because we have a ridiculous FPTP system, and I don't trust Labour with the economy, so there's no other viable choice.

GreenMeerkat · 18/06/2018 21:16

Because the alternative is worse?

I don't vote Tory but labour aren't exactly ideal are they?

onlythemoon · 18/06/2018 21:17

In my case, because Labour just do not stand a chance where I live and our local MP is excellent.

mimibunz · 18/06/2018 21:17

The best of the worst?

Neolara · 18/06/2018 21:18

Because the opposition is so hopeless?

Lewwat · 18/06/2018 21:19

Who else should I vote for?
Corbyn? Fuck off
Lib dem? Bunch of bloody pansies
There is no viable alternative.

And tbh after the last shit show of a Labour government I can't quite understand why people voted for them either!

The80sweregreat · 18/06/2018 21:19

Lots of reasons ( I know many , but I never have voted for them) people do believe they are better with the economy. This latest money promised for the NHS is a classic Tory hoodwink and folk will fall for it as it’s ‘labour Bad and tories good. ‘
My opinion is labour need a new leader to get anywhere near number ten but that’s a whole other thread and most mumsnetters wouldn’t agree!

MoreCoffeePlease123 · 18/06/2018 21:20

I’ve asked a few people this before. All say that the Tories seem to be more “heavyweight” - they are seen to be responsible with the economy whereas Labour throw money at everything. (Their words, not mine)

ForalltheSaints · 18/06/2018 21:20

I think fear of Labour is one, and in the area I live in the lack of action against anti-semitic remarks by some Labour Party members.

Itchytights · 18/06/2018 21:20

Is that you Jeremy?

THIS.....

IMBU · 18/06/2018 21:22

Not this again Hmm

GeordieTerf · 18/06/2018 21:23

The Torres are pricks, but they're not stupid.

Labour are both pricks AND stupid.

The80sweregreat · 18/06/2018 21:23

Jeremy Corbyn is ( probably) a nice enough man and has ‘principles ‘ but a potential PM / I can’t see it happening. A new man in charge and we could see a change. He is also a leaver _ 48 percent needs someone to doesn’t up for them over Brexit. He isn’t it.

Metoodear · 18/06/2018 21:23

Because I can’t stand a champagne socialist
Shami Chakrabarti Son attends duwlich collage
Shamus Miles daughters attends tiffin
Well we all know about JC who’s son went to a grammer

They are also anti semites

Oh and we shall add populists who throw the working class and women under the buss for trans and uni students

Oh and let’s also add left wing fring have taken over labour

And shall we add Diane Abbott the thought of her in change or my security it’s frankly frightening

Mrs May is bad but jermery Corbyn is worse thus born out by the fact no matter what the Tory’s currently do Jeremy Corbyn simply can’t get ahead

When they get rid JC and his ilk and take a step into the center become a bit more sensible and stop virtual signaling then people will vote labour again

The80sweregreat · 18/06/2018 21:24
  • stick up for them rather
x2boys · 18/06/2018 21:24

because its a democracy and the last labour government hardly coverered thenselves in glory did they not to menyiob Jeremy.....

theforceisstrong · 18/06/2018 21:24

Why would anyone vote labour?

Ohmydayslove · 18/06/2018 21:24

I would rather rip my arm off and beat myself with the soggy end than vote for the vile Corbyn and his utterly inept front bench. Dianne Abbott and Emily Thornbury? Patronising hypocritical racists! Nope.

I can’t stand the tories but if labour want power they need to sort out their leadership it’s pathetic.

How is the alternative worse! Worse than ppl commuting suicide waiting for their first universal payment. Worse than public services workers feeling demoralised and having to leave the professions they love?
Badger culling, what they are doing with regards to Yemen, children living in poverty!
Honestly, I can't understand why ppl would vote for a party that is destroying the fabric of society.
Also, the Tory's are not better on the economy . Not by a long shot.

x2boys · 18/06/2018 21:25

mention*

Pikehau · 18/06/2018 21:25

Currently probably because labour are woeful. I’m an ex labour member. Now very lost and vote liberal however would vote Tory if Anna soubry or Clare Davidson was a candidate! But that’s brexit related.

Anyway historically I think people thought because they were “middle class” “upwardly mobile” etc that they should vote Tory.

Also people are very me me me and see bigger taxes mean I’ll be worse off as a given rather than thinking oh maybe society as a whole might be better and oh I live in this society!
