to ask you how clean your house is?(203 Posts)
Long time lurker here and only just plucked up the courage to create my own account... I see a lot of threads where people post regarding their standards of cleanliness/tidiness and there is more often than not, a disputed regarding 'the norm', which has prompted me to join and ask:
- how clean is your house?
- how clean is your car?
- do you clean it yourself?
- do you hire a cleaner?
- what do you do to make cleaning more enjoyable? (I bloody hate it!)
My house is fairly clean but I can see dust building up in corners and my windows need washing. My car is horrid. It's disgusting and I'm getting it valeted on Monday! I'm dreading the looks on their faces when they see it. I can't afford a cleaner, so clean myself, and have yet to find a routine or way to make cleaning fun/easy/more enjoyable...
There isn't a way. If I can see it's dirty I clean it. Otherwise out of sight, out of mind. Get a cleaner. I don't even want to think about it.
My house is very clean BUT the kitchen surfaces are always clean, the coffee table is always clean, I'm constantly wiping around the toilet and sink.
I clean up after myself, every single time. It's boring but it's the only way I've found of keeping on top of it all.
So, every morning before going downstairs, I make the bed, open windows/curtains and take down any laundry that needs doing. Before work, I make sure all the animals are fed/watered/walked, the breakfast things are washed and any laundry is put on (and hung out if I have time). Before bed, all the dishes are done, downstairs is vacuumed (daily as we have three furry animals!), lunches made for the next day and the all surfaces cleared.
It's dull and boring but it means the house is always tidy and I never have to spend hours of my weekend blitzing anything. I tend to do the bathroom once a week while I'm running a bath - that includes washing towels. Again, the bed is stripped once a week as part of my morning "tidy up". Kitchen I clean as I go.
Not very. Children, dogs and a husband see to it that the house is never spotless.
May I add there is no judgement from me! A clean house/car is not the be all and end all of everything (in my opinion of course). I wish I loved cleaning!
My kitchen is tiny so I keep that clean but everywhere else I just try to keep clutter free and tidy and then it makes running the hoover round when that carpet looks a bit 3D is easy.
I don't notice dust though am aware that my blinds need doing(they've been up over a year and the only one ever cleaned is the one in my bedroom).
Everything else just gets done when it looks as if it needs it.
I do have mega cleans when people come and stay overnight as that gives them long enough to notice!
I get my car cleaned every couple if months the inside stays clean fir quite a while but I live rurally so on a bad day by the time I've driven home you can't tell.
Car is an absolute mess. Inside and out. Poor thing. In fact, I will go and sort it (at least a bit!) today.
House is lovely most of the time. The worst it gets is nothing a quick hoover and wipe around won’t sort out. Every now and then I like to deep clean a room - so nothing ever gets out of hand iyswim. Also, we declutter all the time and not having clutter around helps so much (it’s all in the car ).
My house is not that clean. It's not unhygienic though. Well, the toilets and kitchen are always clean. It is very lived in but with five children and lots of pets it is to be expected.
My car is a mess. I don't allow food in my car but it is full of shit and a struggle to get in the back at the moment.
I hate cleaning, if it wasn't for DH my house would be in a very sorry state.
The dishes are always washed up when things have been used (bar cups) as we don't have a dish washer. That is the only way to really keep on top of the kitchen. We don't sit down after having dinner, stuff gets washed up straight after.
The living room I just give a quick tidy to once a day.
Until the children all move out I just accept it is always going to be messy because I don't care enough to spend too much time doing it.
My house is reasonably cleaning with a questionable bathroom upstairs that I will tackle later--when I get my lazy arse up and stop slurping coffee--
Car is clean on the outside but inside is terrible but it goes in for a service next week so it will get blitzed this weekend.
I clean, my husband cleans and the kids do sod all which I'm perfectly ok with, although they will do things if I ask.
No particular routine but since having cordless Dyson's with attachments my house is a lot cleaner than it's ever been.
House- surface cleanbut corners/ under stuff builds up as I only have time to deep clean in holidays.
Car. Not bad but no young children = little mess. Boot often full of stuff to go to charity shop fir months at a time though.
Laundry does get out of hand when everyone is home from uni and stuff though.
I love cleaning but the house is looking a bit skanky. Havent hoovered or mopped floors all week.
Was going to do it today but some friends just invited me out to a pub garden.
My fun comes before everything else.
Also, we declutter all the time and not having clutter around helps so much (it’s all in the car)
I counted 4 pairs of shoes in my car the other day, a violin, a massive bag of cushion stuffing (for a group I was running), lots of bags, a big bag of clothes that need to go to charity and random other shit. I really need to sort it out.
My house is very clean, but I've always been a clean and tidy person. I have a very demanding job, so coming home and giving the bathroom a good clean or hoovering the stairs is therapeutic! I love emptying the fridge and cleaning it. I'll stop now because you've already decided I'm weird
We have a 5 1/2 day a week housekeeper / nanny (although both children are now at school full time).
Our house is in a frightful mess by Monday morning.
My house and car are always clean and tidy (I'm known for it). I like to be visitor ready at any time, aside from toys that my child is playing with. I did have a cleaner but she went back to work at her usual job. We do it ourselves now. We keep on top of it, and clean up after ourselves straight away. I find if you leave mess and dirt until you do a "big clean" it will feel daunting so you're less inclined do it.
My house isn't very clean or tidy! It's just not a priority for me or my family. I hate cleaning and so does my dh.
We have a cleaner who comes for 3 hours per week. We don't do any other cleaning apart from day to day washing up/keeping kitchen clean and cleaning the loo if needed and a very occasional blitz if people are staying. Windows cleaned 4 x per year, oven cleaned once per year.
Neither clean nor tidy. Lol. Kids are 5,3 and 2 and I'm studying I just cannot keep it clean and tidy no matter how hard I try.
I'm naturally quite tidy so just put things away/clean as I go. Two DC, cats, a dog and rabbits mean it's never spotless but generally I'd always be happy for people to drop by and not fret over the state of it. It's not a big thing to clean because it's habitual rather than something I specifically aim to get done.
However, DH occasionally moans that I'm too tidy and that he'd like it to be more 'homey' so every now and then I down tools for a day and by bedtime he panics and says "what the fucks' happened here" as he finds slime on the dog, iPads under sofas and 57000 socks across the house. There's not really a happy medium because if I let go, it gets a bit wild a bit too quickly.
It's pretty bad actually. Cleaned some windows today, first time in 18months. Water was brown after the first one. Never dust at all, I find lamp light disguises dust.
Not very clean at all.
Kitchen floor: quite grubby, mopping doesn’t get done very often
Bathrooms: cleaned regularly and kept hygienic
Kitchen: surfaces kept hygienic, cupboards a mess.
Vacuuming: done when I can’t stand the ‘bits’ on the stairs any more
General decor and tidiness: quite embarrassing. I need an hour before anyone visits.
I am time poor and time stressed. It is what it is, I’m not going to do my head in playing Domestic Saint Top Trumps.
My car is so grimy that it has its own ecosystem, it’s practically returned to nature.
Not really, we both work FT so not much gets done in the week aside from dishwasher and staying on top of washing.
At the weekend dp cleans downstairs to sparkling and I iron and half heartedly clean upstairs.
I can't really blame our busy lives tbh, I would just rather do anything but clean.
