I’m getting so bored of these on beauty/toothbrushes.
I just ordered DD1 an electric toothbrush quickly a 3 nights ago from Superdrug, literally picked the best rating with the most reviews.
Just went on there now to see if it’s on it’s way and the £299 down to £99 all bells and whistles toothbrush was on from page, semi tempted by its claims I thought I’d check out some of the huge number of reviews... then gave up after scrolling down 3 pages, during which just one single review did not contain the above disclaimer (and I wonder if in that case it was missed off by accident).
Am I missing somethIng though? Maybe someone can explain to me that “part of a promotion” doesn’t necessarily mean they got them free for writing a review..?
I’m not buying itGrin

I get stuff free , in return I am supposed to write a review on amazon and their own website.

Yes it will be free. Product testing is very popular as you get the items for free in exchange for writing a review. Most companies do this.

Aren’t reviews likely to be more positive than not, if someone has received the item for free?

I ignore any positive reviews that have this disclaimer on them.

Which makes it much harder to wade through and work out what people truly think of items.

I had an account with company because i had bought previous products and registered for warrenty and the sent me an email asking if i wanted to be on their consumer panel. I said yes and every so often i get an email about a new product and i have to fill out a survey. If they think im what the right demographic they send me a product to test for a few weeks. Ive had a spiraliser and a kettle and toaster so far.

I also ignore these reviews. They're irritating and often put me off buying something, if a company has to 'buy in' positive reviews like this.
