AIBU?

AIBU to be so upset I can’t lose weight?

So depressed, been doing ketogenic diet for three weeks, have been a total saint and appetite magically totally suppressed to the point that I’m eating once a day.....

I’m not starving myself, but god I’ve been virtuous

I’ve lost precisely 1lb
I am 44 and angry
I just ate a load of carrot cake.

I only had a stone to lose a year ago it would have done off super quick

I just can’t lose weight.

AIBU to think I may have to accept being overweight?

AUBU to think that this is being 44?

How tall are you and how much do you weigh?

I'm 44. On a strict low carb diet. Did lose weight first few weeks but now at a complete standstill. Keep going!!! I've got 1 1/2 stone to go. I've just got to keep going. It was easier 20 years ago! Try some exercise. It won't make a lot of diff. To weight loss but does help a lot with mindset. X

I’m 5’6 11 stone 10

I’m quite big built and come in at a size 14

It’s so unusual for me but to lose weight quickly when I need to....I just can’t help wondering if it’s my age

My happy size 10 weight is 10.5 stone

Don’t despair, sometimes a treat can reset your metabolism and you start to lose again. My PT doesn’t agree with me on this, but just eating one meal differently and having what you want every couple of weeks can give you a kick start. Good luck.

More information is needed.
Ketogenic or not, how many calories per day?

You should see my posts on this (8 weeks to lose a stone thread). I am a bit older than you. For the first 3-4 weeks I lost nothing. Then I started losing but it's painfully slow. I must have lost 1-2kg in around 6 weeks and it has been SUCH hard work. I have another 3-4kg to go fgs!

I do think getting older has something to do with it.

You may need to do more than eat one meal as you may unintentionally be slowing down your metabolism.

Sorry to hear you are struggling OP. I think it could be your age. Do you see many 5’6 size 10 women in their mid-forties? No. Why ? Because it’s very difficult to lose the weight as nature is trying to make us gain weight in this decade. I’ve spent the last year failing to lose my extra ‘forties’ stone and drop a dress size. I’m thinking of just giving up, buying bigger clothes and focusing on being healthy and active.

You're a very similar weight and height to me. I do think it's age. But if we weren't trying we would be even more overweight. X

Ok so I kind of fell into this diet in a way....On the food front, I had a very busy day and was starving, ate a four egg omelette and was stuffed for 24 hours! Repeated the next day..... lost a couple of pounds, decided to embrace ketosis and went with it. My appetite has been suppressed amazingly, I’m talking a chicken breast a day etc prob about 700-800 calories.

In the interests of full disclosure I’ve now put a load of oven chips on

There should be a weeping emoticon on here

I’m going to a wedding this weekend and can’t wear the dress that fitt s me perfectly not too long ago

No I only see clearly very motivated athletic types or overweight ones

How can I raise my metabolism?
There has to be a way! I’ve a wardrobe of lovely size ten stuff and can’t get into any of it

How much water are you drinking? You need plenty for keto to work.
Are you seeing other benefits? Improved sleep, skin, no cravings, balanced blood sugar levels?
You can eat a lot of delicious food on keto, so I'm surprised that you felt deprived. Unless you don't cook from scratch and mix it up? In which case it could feel limited.
Why not join the low carb bootcamp and list what you eat each day. It might uncover something that could make a difference.

Sounds like you’re in ketosis. Are you drinking litre of water?

My mind is still 10st n size 8/10 - it’s such a shock I can’t believe the change in the last three years (46)

dont eat cake and chips for a start!

I am similar to you OP and last year I lost a stone. It took me about four months. I didn't lose anything for a couple of times for a few weeks.

You are making the classic mistake of being on a ridiculous diet ( one meal a day!) and then binging on cake. You need to try and find something you can stick to. I like low carb and 5.2.

You need to do some exercise which will give you a bit of wiggle room, while also keeping you out of the house, away from food, suppressing your appetite, etc.

Start with speed walking and move to running, mix it up with long, slow runs and fast sprints.

At 44 things will move slowly, but remember it's an iceberg - you can't see anything inside, but you're making progress inside.

Undereating will not slow down your metabolism (long disproven) but decrease in estrogen (peri menopause/menopause) does.
Do you weigh yourself daily?

Ignore the advice that exercise doesn't make a difference, that's just stupid and incorrect.

What exercise are you doing?

How many calories are you eating?

I’m not feeling deprived at all I’m genuinely not that bothered and interestingly enough, when I had pmt last week I didn’t have anything remotely like a chocolate craving (normally I’m a total fiend).

My favourite things are chicken fish and omelettes so I’m actually very happy doing this, but the main point is why weight isn’t moving

I’m drinking a litre of water a day that may not be enough

Well, you could be overeating and you could be building muscle (if your exercising) and it could be water retention. Do you have a smart scale?

Report
DianaT1969 · 13/06/2018 21:42

Any other drinks alongside the litre of water? Mint tea/green tea etc? If not, I suspect a litre isn't enough with a keto diet. Why not increase two litres or 2.5 and see if that moves the scales.

Post 40 it’s soooo hard - as someone on here described it “its a long hard slog.”
That’s the way you have to see it I think - at the moment I am exercising every day for 30 minutes - sometimes twice a day if I can and have lost a few pounds. If I was back in my 20’s I would have been skeletal by now! Weights are the best way xxxx

It does make a difference but it’s like 20%, nutrition is key.

But if anyone says muscle weighs more than fat. I will reach through the screen and back hand you Grin
