To call my step father a racist

Long story short, he is for ever following, posting and sharing stories from pages labelled "britain firsr" "make Britain great again" "white lives matter" and anything from the BNP Facebook. He accuses anyobe of a different nationality of being a terrorist, and constantly goes on about how if he wasn't white he'd have everything handed to him instead of having to work for it. It infuriates me and I've unfollowed him of Facebook and other social media but kept him as a 'friend.'
My mother doesn't think he's a racist, which I don't understand and swears he's just believing what he sees on Facebook as truth... I think he's being a moron and to believe those things and judge people like that he's a racist.

You are correct, op. Unfriend him, don't let anyone associate his vile posts with you. I would also let him know that most of the stuff those groups churn out is fake.

VladmirsPoutine Wed 13-Jun-18 06:59:06

Well of course he's racist. Not sure why you'd need anyone else to confirm it for you. Nor am I sure why you are using ableist language in a post about discrimination of one type or another.

"ableist language"

You mean 'moron'?

You must have to work really hard to find offense at everything; or maybe you don't.

VladmirsPoutine Wed 13-Jun-18 07:05:46

I'm not offended. I don't pore through threads waiting to catch the slightest whiff of a potential offensive term. I'm rather bemused by the AIBU. There doesn't seem to be one in existence. I wonder if anyone will come along and say "YABU, he is not racist, in fact we do need to make Britain great again."

NewYearNewMe18 Wed 13-Jun-18 07:08:05

If people only read one (biased) "news" source - usually a social media site, then they have no alternative information to make a rational and reasoned judgment against. I've given up challenging people with those views, it's like a pigeon shitting on a chess board, they don't want to hear it, they all buy into the very clever mantra of BF forever posting poppies and 'our heros' type memes without the brain cells to understand 'our fathers' actually fought against the far right and fascism.

Sorry, actually,no Im not sorry, I look at BF style regurgitate posters and think there is a viable case for eugenics and compulsory sterilisation. They muddy the gene pool.

Hermitsunited Wed 13-Jun-18 07:11:26

My AIBU was because like I said my mother has told me I am unreasonable to call him a racist over these things. If I'm told he's not a racist by some then I'm going to ask if he is to others

Hermitsunited Wed 13-Jun-18 07:12:31

@VladimirsPoutine and when someone is behaving like an uniformed moron I'm going to call them one, it's not discrimination it's truth

feral Wed 13-Jun-18 07:26:41

If he wasn't white he'd have it all handed to him? Seems he's too stupid to understand white privilege!?

Vile and racist and your mum too if she can't see it, sorry.

greendale17 Wed 13-Jun-18 07:39:19

He is a racist and I would have nothing more to do with him.

MissionItsPossible Wed 13-Jun-18 07:40:14

Well clearly he is. And ‘moron’ isn’t really offensive.

MissionItsPossible Wed 13-Jun-18 07:40:53

Don’t know how ‘really’ creeped in there^. ‘Moron’ is not offensive at all.

My DF's partner's family are all like this. I refuse to socialise with them.

wannabestressfree Wed 13-Jun-18 09:36:20

Lots of people I know who I would view as quite intelligent share that view that 'foreigners' get the best council houses, most benefits, freebies etc.
In fact when I moved into an adapted property along with lots of others of varying nationalities the person who is most vocal is the one who is committing benefit fraud and growing drugs openly. Social services and the police are aware but seem intimidated by them..... so leave them alone.

My aunt is the same, it’s incredibly disappointing and I think I ignore her behaviour because she’s in her 70s, but it’s not okay to say and post the things she does.

crispysausagerolls Wed 13-Jun-18 09:59:13

A close relative of mine recently started to come out with holocaust denial. DH is Jewish, and we are both absolutely horrified.

Hermitsunited Wed 13-Jun-18 10:21:54

@crispysausagerolls Wow that's terrible. How on earth can a person deny something so horrific! I hope your DH isn't treated badly by this person.

crispysausagerolls Wed 13-Jun-18 14:08:48

He really likes DH, which makes it extremely weird. He just genuinely believes the shit he is coming out with and therefore can't see how it's offensive. All of us who don't agree are "ignorant". I assume it's a similar attitude to your stepfather!

Hermitsunited Wed 13-Jun-18 18:28:22

Almost ignorant, we are just "snowflakes" and obviously soft apparently. If he just went on about terrorists I'd agree as terrorists are awful but it's not, it's anyone which even a slight tan!
I don't think you can argue with your relative, just like I can't argue with mine. Even when the evidence and facts are thrown in their faces they don't believe anything but their own warped sense of fact

Hermitsunited Wed 13-Jun-18 18:28:53

Sense of fact makes no sense... ignore that last part 😂

Octopeppa Wed 13-Jun-18 20:31:38

Yes, he is a racist.

He isn't necessarily wrong that Britain could do with becoming greater (and there are many possible definitions of that), but it's up to all of us, whatever race we are.
