Oh ffs. Yanbu.

Urgh.

Don't really know where to start on that.

YANBU. It's the apostrophe that bothers me although there is a misplaced apostrophe on their own brand rice crispies too so it doesn't surprise me!

It's the misplaced, unnecessary apostrophe that concerns me. The message about drinking isn't dissimilar to many cards, gifts, etc that are usually aimed at men.

I can't get worked up about the beer bit, only the apostrophe, but sadly it doesn't surprise me.

In the past I've seen printed signs in Asda saying 'New Zeeland Chedder' and 'Rasers are now in the shampoo aisle' (funny how they managed to spell aisle correctly).

Also, their packs of petits pois are labelled Petit Pois. OK, I know that is not going to make everybody wince, but you don't see this sort of thing elsewhere. IMO they don't bother having anything checked because they think the vast maj. of their customers are too thick or ill educated to notice, let alone be bothered.

I'm reminded too of a Mothers' Day card a few years ago - not in Asda however. 'If Mum's were flowers, I'd pick you.'

I don't find that offensive at all. I don't know a single person who would wear it, because it's naff. Taking the apostrophe and naffness out of the equation, what's so offensive about it? There are dad's who work really hard and are brilliant fathers. I wouldn't even buy it if it were a card, it's so naff, but what's so deserving of a thread on mumsnet about it?

2blueshoes - I'm not offended by it (nor did I say I was), I'm annoyed by the errant apostrophe. I do think large retail chains ought to have someone checking their products for spelling, punctuation and grammar.

I'm sure most parents would prefer it if their children were not exposed to such errors, given that they'll be tested on them all the way up to A level...

Still better than the Mother's day card I saw that said "Mum, there are millions of vaginas in the world, but I'm so happy I fell out of yours." Confused

A shop near me has "merangz" as an option on the self-service tills. I really hope that's for space reasons rather than somebody actually thinks that's how it's spelt!

"fell out of yours"

If only it had been that fucking easy!

Please tweet them and tell them about the apostrophe.

"merangz"

I'm pretty well educated but wouldn't have a clue how to spell that word!

See also 'Jewish Christmas'.

That apostrophe is giving me a twitch....can't they read FGS!

Almost as bad as 'should of' instead of 'should have'

Appalling. This is one thread I’d actually like to see picked up by the Daily Mail.

Misplaced apostophe,
Encouraging drinking, because of course all dads drink beer,
Naff cutesy print,
Faux "pre-worn" look, also naff.

Bleugh.

Does no-one spell/grammar check this stuff before it goes out? It would annoy me silly to keep seeing that! Happy with it otherwise.

Where is the internal logic that puts an apostrophe in Dad's but not in halve's? Or even half's?

That's what I don't get about the creeping apostrophe problem. Every morning I drive past a sign for 'Bath's and Sinks' and I think... why?!

Grin Shock

Wow. I'm sure any mum woud love to receive that gem.

Asda should employ a proofreader!

@Caribou58 YANBU, I get really mad about rogue apostrophes. I'm willing and raring to kick some arses today - can I use your pic and go over to their Facebook page and give them a bollocking?
