How can I earn £2500 from scratch in 6 weeks?

SuperSkint · 07/06/2018 19:28

I have name-changed and am posting here for traffic - I need to find £2500 by mid-July and am looking for ideas please! (I need to earn it, not get a loan)

I have plenty of spare time but a new job probably wouldn't pay out in time for my deadline so I'm exploring other options.

So far I've started ebaying everything I can think of but I only have average old stuff so it won't bring much.

I've thought of delivering pizzas (I have a car) but it needs to be something where I will actually have the money quickly.

I'm hoping all you mumsnetters with far more imagination than I have can help! I'm obviously happy to put in the hours.

I should add I'm semi-rural so Deliveroo wouldn't work- it isn't a thing here. I'm over 40.

I’d break it down - how much can you earn doing eBay?
Delivering leaflets - about £300pm (it was when I did it a few years ago)
Babysitting -£200?
Matched betting (loads of videos telling you how) £300
Waitressing - £400pm

Perhaps a gofundme page if the reason you need the cash is emotive?

Do you have any marketable skills that can be done remotely, such as copywriting/web design/proofreading/graphic design/voiceovers etc?

You can register with sites such as Fiverr or PeoplePerHour where you create a profile, note any skills you have (along with a portfolio), your hourly and people looking for the services you offer hire you. You also get 'TripAdvisor'-style reviews that boost your appearance in searches.

I use these quite a lot for a little boost in addition to my FT job, as I have some skills that I don't use on a D2D basis that I want to keep sharp, and it's actually pretty good.

'Hourly rate', sorry. Posted without proofing!

I would do matched betting, look it up on Facebook and YouTube and there is some free websites to help. I am aiming to make about £5-600 with the World Cup coming up.

These are great! Keep them going...
though no-one would want to pay for my driveway sadly as there are no double yellow lines for miles around me.

I should have added it's not for an emotive reason (it's a payment deadline) and crowdfunding wouldn't be appropriate.

Have you considered prostitution?

But on a serious note you could look at house sitting, offering lifts to people (it's festival season so lots of people wanting lifts all over the place), if you have a good understanding of economics you could try spread betting (but very easy to loose money this way), if you play golf enter some ametuer golf competitions if you think that you have a chance of winning - prize money is usually quite good, you could try entering lots of online competitions and giveaways in your spare time, if you can sew/bake etc you could take orders, you could consider growing some plants from seeds to sell, if you type you can try to do some audio transcription, if you know another laureate you could try translation.

What is matched betting? Is it really worth trying? Can someone please PM me a good website/s or Youtube video that explains it to a complete beginner?

Matched betting is gambling with a false sense of a little more security. Gambling is not a safe way to get out of debt or earn money. Really surprised that people have given that as a serious suggestion.

Really, how do people think companies make a profit from matched betting? It's not a public service or a charity. The money comes from you, or if you get lucky, from another sucker.

Do you like animals? What about pet sitting? If we go on holiday we would much rather have someone come and live in our house to care for our animals rather than putting them into kennels. I think you'd need insurance though.

House sitting is a good one. Offering a pick up and deliver service to locals - maybe a flat rate to go and do someone's shopping or collect a kid from school. Stick an ad up in a local facebook group or supermarket.

Gardening? I'd pay someone to come and weed the garden or cut the grass. You could offer basics without being an amazing gardener.

(Just to clarify, I do understand matched betting and fully recognise its potential. It is not something I would ever recommend to someone desperate for money though- the risk of getting trapped or drawn in to the gambling scene is too great. It requires complete detachment, logic and self control- some people have that, but recommending it to a stranger is not sensible in my opinion).

OH GOD NO

Please, please don't tout ANY of these as get-rich-quick schemes - there is NO GUARANTEED WAY to make money from them and anyone who is touting a "system" is lying to themselves, or you, or both.

Think about it - do you really think there is a tutorial on YouTube showing you how to make free money, and wouldn't we all be millionaires by now?

It is possible to make money from spread betting, matched betting, cryptocurrencies, etc - just like it is possible to make money from a pyramid scheme, roulette or the lottery. It's just that most people don't and there is no way to guarantee you'll be in the lucky few who do, rather than the unfortunate majority who end up poorer than when they started.

Honestly don't think matched betting is gambling. I did it last year made about a grand and then walked away. I really don't think it requires much self control it just requires you to follow exactly what the calculators say. Win or lose makes no difference, you're not invested in anything or any outcome. You do need a bit of reserves to get you started though, or at least the more float you have the quicker you can turn over the money as most sites take 3 days to transfer back your "winnings".

Are you near any fruit farms? I used to get casual days labour in our local one when I needed it. Might be a bit early in the season though.

Local newspaper to us employed people on a casual basis, ie pay after shift, to stuff advertising leaflets into the papers before they went out.

Change bank accounts to one with a switching bonus, only a couple of hundred but all adds up.

Long shot but if your married and you or spouse earn under tax personal allowance (just under £12,000), you can get marriage tax allowance backdated for the last few years.

Check if your in credit with utility company and is so ask for refund

If it's so safe and easy and 100% guaranteed, why on earth did you walk away?

Surely if it's risk free, just requires following instructions you would have kept doing it?

Matched betting is not gambling really, and it certainly isn't a silly system or scheme. you just place a bet with a company offering a free bet or a risk free bet, then lay the bet with another company. The companies both make money and you keep the money made from the free bet. Anyone saying it is dodgy clearly lacks understanding of the concept.

TheRoadLessRocky · 07/06/2018 20:08

Matched betting uses gambling sites but it isn't false security, it genuinely is no risk if done properly. However its not for people who like a bit of risk because the temptation is too much to swerve into actually gambling. It works for me because I'm never tempted to do the non risk-free offers. Op, look into it but you need to really understand what you're doing before you start and know whether you're the kind of person who would be swayed by gambling.

Otherwise I have no suggestions that haven't been mentioned above. I've always been tempted to sell dirty knickers abd worn shoes but can't quite bring myself to!

Are there any foreign language colleges nearby? They pay quite well for student accommodation.
