Moved into our house about 6 months ago.

Today dh was working in the loft and he found some kind of old porn magazine called Sun Lovers, looks like it could be from the 70s, tucked away under the insulation with an ancient Christmas tree fairy.

Pretty gross and went straight in the bin, it must have been up there years and years, before the previous owners.

What strange things have you found in your house when you've moved in?

Big holes behind wallpaper filled with bluetack was fun. It made a weird popping sound when I stripped it off!

AllMYSmellySocks · 27/05/2018 23:39

Not me but friend. She had been living in her new house about a year when the old owner turned up out of the blue and said he needed to collect something he'd left there. She let him in he goes to the cupboard under the stairs moves a plank of wood and pulls out a box full of rolex looking watches (didn't see close enough to know if they were genuine). He thanks her and leaves.

DaughterOfEvening · 27/05/2018 23:41

A box containing a human jawbone, complete with teeth. Another box containing part of a human tibia. And another containing a piece of another large piece of a long bone. Found around two weeks after I moved in.

Hideandgo · 27/05/2018 23:43

Daughter, real bone? Did you call the police?

beIindaBlinked · 27/05/2018 23:44

Real bones!????

LexieLulu · 28/05/2018 00:02

We found a police whistle from like 1911 or similarly. Completely boring compared to human bones, porn and Rolex's

DaughterOfEvening · 28/05/2018 00:03

Yes real bones. I carried them out to the garden (in the boxes) on a dustpan, half crying, half laughing. Then put them in a corner of the garage. I rang the police who seemed quite uninterested but took the details. Lots going on and then a holiday a few weeks later meant I forgot about them.
Returned from holiday to several notes from local police and then finally a visit from two nervous-looking plod. I showed them the boxes and they started making noises about searching the house for any other parts! The house was still in disarray due to the move so it was quite a half-hearted nose around.
I heard nothing for months then finally got a call to say that the bones were older than 100 years and no action would be taken! I think the term antiquities was used?
I’m still slightly unnerved by this episode but still live in the house.

The Townswomen's Guild Song Book.

64BooLane · 28/05/2018 00:08

Shock at the bones story.

Have you ever researched previous residents of your house?

snufflehuff · 28/05/2018 00:13

My Nan found a human shit in a pile of toilet paper in her loft. The builders had left it.

Kursk · 28/05/2018 00:15

In our current home we found A heap of woman’s clothing, handbag, and shoes buried in the back garden. That was pretty strange.

The house has a bit of a sad past really. There had been a high turnover of owners (nothing sinister I think, just a big old place that had been neglected) I found out that the house had been sold three times in 10 years & been on and off the market many times. That said I’ve been here over 15 years and it’s been a happy house generally and a sanctuary in sad times.

chitofftheshovel · 28/05/2018 00:24

Not my own house but ex landlords who I used to clean for also.

They were both in their 80's and he sadly passed away. A few weeks later saw me cleaning the tops of the kitchen cupboards for the first time since I'd started cleaning for them.

I found a few porno videos and this homemade wank vessel made out of an milk carton.

Luckily the niece was still there as I didn't want to ask my landlady what to do with her recently departed porn stash, but didn't want to just remove stuff from the house willy nilly.

LinoleumBlownapart · 28/05/2018 00:30

My mum and her neighbour found part of a sworn off leg bone and hip, they were digging up the knotweed that was overtaking both gardens. Similar story to Daughter, the bones were over 100 years old. Possibly used for medical students and then the remains were supposed to be buried on consecrated ground but bit necessarily inside the churchyard, the house backs onto a churchyard. Apparently the old lady that lived in the third house came out to peg up her washing, they showed her what they'd found. She grew up in the house and straight away said "it was his dog, it was his dog" to which my mum's neighbour said "bloody big, upright walking dog!".

Really shit artwork by the previous occupant's sister (gave it back)
Remains of joints, lots of filters in room of previous occupant's scummy son

Utter rubbish, basically.

Anyone else scaring the wits out of themselves on this thread...?

AjasLipstick · 28/05/2018 00:43

My sister moved into her 15th century house in the spring...it is in Wales and next to a church which is around a thousand years old. The graveyard adjoins her garden which is massive.

She immediately began digging and getting ready to plant things and straight away, began unearthing human bones.

The graveyard's perimeter must have altered over the years and she realised that a good chunk of her garden was full of remains!

Ski40 · 28/05/2018 00:48

Previous owner was a photographer. We found negatives from some rather intimate pictures of his wife. I met her a few times over the years and could barely bring myself to look at her in the eyes... so embarrassing! Lol 😨😁

When the back of the house was excavated for dampcourse work the builder made a snippy comment about the Wests. I told him the story about the bones (with some details slightly embellished) and he was very quiet after that.

Hahaha, I bet he was Daughter!

A picture of Mary holding the baby Jesus that was hung on the wall at the far end of the attic. May not seem that strange except....

Mary doesn't have a face.

The rest of the picture is fine, but she literally has no face. Honestly, it's freaky as fuck.

Flowerfae · 28/05/2018 01:00

Wasn't me thank goodness, but when I was little a family had recently moved into a house a bit further down from us, they started having work done on the house, and the builders ended up digging up quite a few bodies. They lived, not right next to, but near to a graveyard (the graveyard's boundaries had changed and the bodies would have been very very very old). I'd of had to move out after that because I'd never sleep, most likely nothing creepy would happen.. but no thanks.

Ginkypig · 28/05/2018 01:01

A pair of very old massive pants down the back of one of the radiators
