House behind mine, not directly behind- behind and to the left are building a summer house, however the structure is up and it’s huge! More of a full blown house. I’ve tried googling and annoyingly I’m not sure they would have needed planning permission. Would you hate this although not directly behind my house? ...I’m also dreading how much “hosting” they will do in it.

To consider this an eyesore

The neighbours at the bottom of our garden did similar. They told us they were building a shed and would we mind if they lifted the pieces over our fence, because their house doesn't have access to the garden from the front. We said yes, of course...but when it arrived, it became clear their version of a shed is actually a huge stable block -type construction - it's HUGE! DH spent a Sunday morning helping them hoist the sides over our fence - it took 4 people to move each piece!

I hated it initially, as our back garden isn't very long and it now forms the view from our kitchen window, but I've got used to it and it's not for me to tell them what they can and can't have in their own back garden.

I have a summerhouse at the end if my garden but I don’t do any ‘hosting’ in it. It’s probably just for them to enjoy the evening/morning sun.

It's not awful. I bet your next door neighbours could grow some lovely climbing plants up it and it would look nicer than before.

It's the initial change that's the shock - we'd been used to a particular outlook, so when it changed, I was a bit 😣 but actually, it's ok now. That said, if it was a summerhouse and we were having to listen to a lot of loud socialising, I might feel differently.

looks like a large shed/workshop to me.

there'll be grinded and welders and all.manner of iron mongery tools in there.. that'll be nice come a quiet summers evening. ;)

It is a bit ugly but probably just within permitted height (2.3m at apex iirc) and assuming the garden is at least a similar length to your neighbours. Hopefully your neighbours will also want to mitigate the imposing side of it, with climbers or trellis.

It's not an attactive feature itself - but it's not spoiling a view of anything particularly attractive either ......I don't honestly see that it affects you.

Well I know if I was intending on putting something in my back garden that was within regulations for not needing permissions, I sure as shit wouldn't give a hoot what my neighbours thought of it.

You live in terraced housing, your view is hardly picture perfect anyway so what difference does this make?!

My neighbours each built huge outside bars (like hotels have) they were nearer to my house than their, shit music playing morning until late, my reason for moving.

I'm not sure what the law is, but it can't be over 2 (ish) metres. Sorry not much help

By the size of it I would think it’s more than just a summer house for them to sit in quietl but we will see.
Tbh I find the terrace house comments quite snobby- I find it an eyesaw regardless as it’s a large construction behind my house. Of course if there’s nothing I can so be it, it’s life.

Get out there at night and measure it. Report to the council if it's more than 2.5m tall or if it appears to have water or electricity supply as those require building regs approval.

All I can see is a summerhouse behind you neighbours garden in that picture.

OP I feel for you, but like a PP said it’s the shock of the change that’s most galling. Trust me, in a few months you won’t even notice it anymore.
