...like technology, fridges, screens, etc etc

I just find this really annoying and long to peel it off and reveal the lovely smooth shiny surface underneath....??

Anyone else feel like this?!

I love peeling it off

joajo · 25/05/2018 19:28

and even more annoying when they leave it on way beyond they are meant to and it is really peeling at the edges and going manky just waiting to be peeled!

It's not just technology. My sister leaves the protective covers on everything. He dining chairs are still covered in plastic. Her sofas. It bloody weird.

MaireadMacSweeney · 25/05/2018 19:31

Yes! I don't even have a screen protector on my phone because this annoys me so much.

AnneProtheroe · 25/05/2018 19:31

My ex liked to leave the labels on washing machines on (the type that are stuck on saying "super quick wash 15 minutes" etc.) I suspect he wanted the house to look like a branch of Curry's Hmm

mistermagpie · 25/05/2018 19:32

Don't get me started, we still gave the protective film on our fridge and DH has the one on the dashboard of his car. He insists it keeps things 'nice' but I think it's covering up the 'nice' so what's the point? He's won so far because I got bored of talking about it!

Treaclepie19 · 25/05/2018 19:34

These people are just wrong.
I get such satisfaction peeling them off Grin

Oysterbabe · 25/05/2018 19:34

Yes it's awful.

Jammiebammie · 25/05/2018 19:34

Ah this bugs me too! I have a friend with squeaky plastic covers on her sofa Hmm

My dd thought our new blue appliances in the kitchen were ah-maaaa-zing - until we peeled the blue off Grin

Deucebumps · 25/05/2018 19:34

My parents completely renovated their house nearly a decade ago, and had new doors with the little A5 glass panes in them in several rooms. The protective plastic is still on all of them. It drives me insane when I go to visit.

WIBU to start peeling a few off every time I go back Grin

GummyGoddess · 25/05/2018 19:35

Pil kept the film on the handle of their oven in their new kitchen for literally years. Was peeling around the edges due to the heat and dirty/greasy looking.

Colleagues partner bought a new cooker and then ate out every night until he moved out as he didn't want to devalue it by using it.

Fickleflock · 25/05/2018 19:37

...I remember letting someone know that their new coffee maker still had it on and asked if I could have the pleasure (I was practically salivating!!...oh dear) of peeling it off. They said NO it was supposed to stay on there! I told them that it was a form of protective packaging but they didn’t believe me - Noooooooo!!

pigsDOfly · 25/05/2018 19:38

Hate it, it makes everything look dull and scruffy instead of shiny and new.

Similar but worse: many years ago visiting relations of exh in America they had plastic covers on their sofa and arm chairs.

Older couple, no children or pets. What they were protecting it from I can't imagine. What's the point, looks awful and it's really unpleasant to sit on.

OutsideContextProblem · 25/05/2018 19:40

Death’s too good for them. I literally itch with the frustration of seeing it. And don’t get me started on people with hundreds of unread emails in their deleted box. Just Sodding Empty It!

My mother does this. She also leaves the foil on the spreadable butter.

isthismylifenow · 25/05/2018 19:48

Guilty. I just got a new phone and had my old one two years. The protective film was still on the back. Cant remember how many times I nearly caught dd out trying to peel it off. Of course on my new phone it won't come off either. Hehe. I don't leave plastic on sofas and things though....

pigsDOfly · 25/05/2018 19:52

Well can you explain your reasons for leaving it on Isthismylifenow? Because I'm sure we all want to know.

SimonBridges · 25/05/2018 19:54

It makes me cross. It make DH apoplectic with rage. I’ve heard him shout ‘take the stickers off you utter cunts’ at random people on the tv many times.

joajo · 25/05/2018 19:54

what about those special times when you realise something has had a protective film on that you didn't realise about for some years, and you can suddenly enjoy the peel AND make it shiny and new again...at the same time!! ahhh the joy.

Not long after we moved in the extractor fan broke and to my delight the new one was fitted with a blue film all over it. I stood on a chair to remove it but no! It didn't satisfyingly peel off but was quite stuck on and stretched and ripped. I was incredibly disappointed!

SimonBridges · 25/05/2018 19:55

That simply wouldn’t happen.

My parents completely renovated their house nearly a decade ago, and had new doors with the little A5 glass panes in them in several rooms

Why don't they just go the whole hog and brick up the windows?

Svalberg · 25/05/2018 20:23

I had protective film on the inside of my phone case & it took me about 6 months to realise & take it off Blush
