The Data Protection Act

I'm probably being unreasonable but I'm frustrated!

We ordered a sofa sometime ago which has arrived this week slightly damaged. DH is out of the country for work.for the next 3 weeks so I tried to call the sofa company to get the situation rectified only they won't speak to me due to data protection as we used my husband's credit card to make the purchase. In order for them to establish that my husband is the account holder I've told them every bit of data they hold on him so they aren't protecting any data. Angry

It is ludicrous. A little knowledge and all that. A sofa wasn't personal data last time I looked.

The best thing to do is to email the while copying in your DH's account. Tell them in no uncertain times that they do not get to hide behind data protection laws to avoid dealing with a consumer issue - ie faulty goods and they need to sort it pronto. I had a similar situation when trying to deal with Virgin Media when we didn't have broadband for a week and they eventually accepted my arguments.

Might also be worth looking at Which? for guidance on the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Everyone's paranoid because of GDPR.

Put everything in writing - you don't want them claiming they've never heard from you and now it's too late

Everyone's so worried of getting sued nowadays, they won't do the most basic things. YANBU.

This is my concern.

DH is going to email them when it's the morning it's tricky to arrange these things with a 7hr time difference though.

I wouldn't mind them hiding behind data protection if they were actually protecting some data!
