AIBU?

Aggressive woman-was I BU?

Driving my DC to school today, and we get into the school car park. Was driving along behind two cars, a taxi at the front, then this woman's in front me me.
Taxi stops dead on a zebra crossing with no indication, car in front does the same. I wait a few moments then carefully drive around the two cars (one way system, so nothing coming other way)
Get my DC out of the car and this woman appears from the other car and gets out and starts being very confrontational and aggressive, telling me I should drive carefully (I do) we are all waiting you know, she wanted to get past the taxi too, but was waiting.
It was more the arm gestures and aggression on her face that shocked me.
My poor DC looked scared.

I told her I do drive carefully and that I was sorry to appease the situation. I was left shaking by her aggression!

Was I bu?

I'm confused, if they were stopped at a zebra crossing, why did you pull around them??

mimibunz · 24/05/2018 08:45

If she planned to go around the taxi she should have put on her indicator. You’re not a mind reader are you?

NotAnotherUserName5 · 24/05/2018 08:46

Sorry/I should add it was quiet. Breakfast club and no one walking on the crossing or anywhere nearby for that matter

Overtaking on a zebra crossing!

Bunchofdaffodils · 24/05/2018 08:53

Just sounds like a misunderstanding. She was waiting for taxi to drive off, you thought she’d stopped so over took. Presumably you could see there was no one crossing zebra crossing? Ona road I think maybe you were BU. But the situation you have described I think she was. No need for her to be so offensive, but we don’t know what she’s coping with this morning so try not to take it personally and think about something else to clear the upset from your mind.

Bluntness100 · 24/05/2018 08:54

I don't really understand either, why did you over take cars on a zebra crossing?

NotAnotherUserName5 · 24/05/2018 08:55

It's within the quiet school grounds. Nobody was walking, one way system, ample room. The taxi parked on the zebra crossing

I don't think it's a good idea to overtake on a zebra crossing OP. I think that she's reasonable to assume that you would wait until you have a clear view so she has a point. She shouldn't have shouted at you though and i'm sorry she scared your children

SinisterBumFacedCat · 24/05/2018 08:56

Why on earth would you overtake at a Zedbra crossing?!

UserInfinityplus1 · 24/05/2018 08:57

If I am understanding this correctly then her frustration should have been at the taxi driver who parked on a zebra crossing no?

Four5six · 24/05/2018 08:58

Oh it sounds like my kids primary Grin There's a zebra crossing and then parking bays to the right and left on a one way system. If it's similar to our school, you shouldn't have overtaken, you were rude and you don't overtake on a zebra crossing even a quiet one.

Bluntness100 · 24/05/2018 08:58

Are you sure? The taxi parked on the zebra crossing? There were two cars stopped you said.

Her response to you would indicate they were not parked.

Buster72 · 24/05/2018 08:59

Overtaking on a pedestrian crossing....oh dear. You are unreasonable.
You could not see what was in front of the taxi could you?.
I realise this was within the school grounds so not a breaking of the law but still....

NotAnotherUserName5 · 24/05/2018 09:00

Taxi was parked on the raised white lines (zebra ceissing) the car stopped right behind it, front wheels on the lines. then I was behind,

People seem to park there to let kids run off to breakfast club. I go off and find a parking spot and walk my DC in.

I think you probably should have waited since it was clear she was waiting to see what the taxi would do. That said it was clearly a misunderstanding and she was very U to be so aggressive particularly on the school grounds around children. If she felt the need to broach it she could have done so calmly.

BitOutOfPractice · 24/05/2018 09:01

The taxi shouldn't have stopped on the zebra crossing

You definitely shouldn't overtake on a zebra crossing. It's so bloody dangerous. No way you could have seen a small child on the crossing. It's a really no no

The woman shouldn't have been aggressive

So, while you were all BU, you were the most U of all

CloudCaptain · 24/05/2018 09:01

To be honest I think you were in the wrong and could have waited for the driver in front of you to maneuver around the taxi which had stopped confusingly. Not surprised she shouted if you cut her up on a zebra crossing no less. She was most likely ensuring their were no small children about to cross which you surely couldn't have been able to see around the taxi!

BitOutOfPractice · 24/05/2018 09:02

People seem to park there to let kids run off to breakfast club. I go off and find a parking spot and walk my DC in

So you know there's potentially kids running around. Then you were even more U.

Assburgers · 24/05/2018 09:04

If the taxi was parked on it, there was no one around, it’s a 1 way street, zero danger, then meh, you’re fine.

Maybe she felt like a dickhead for waiting when she could have just gone round. Maybe she was having a bad day. Don’t worry about it.

Hideandgo · 24/05/2018 09:07

It wasn’t overtaking if it was two lanes in a one way system!

You really should never overtake on a zebra crossing! So dangerous!!! Probably illegal too, I'm surprised you think that's acceptable. I cant believe her only concern was that she wanted to overtake the taxi too. You are all dangerous and people really do loose their minds on the school run.

Sounds like you ALL made stupid decisions at that zebra crossing!

The taxi driver needs reporting, though!

NotAnotherUserName5 · 24/05/2018 09:10

Hideandgo-yes it's two lanes. I pulled into the right lane to go past

Nope sorry but I’m with you there OP
Overtaking on a zebra crossing is dangerous when people have stopped to let someone cross.
The taxi was PARKED and for all you know could have stayed there for a long time.
The other woman was wrong to shout and be aggressive regardless of whether you are right or wrong. I suspect she should have been angry at the taxi driver instead and you done exactely the same thing if the wait had been a tiny bit longer.

As for the taxi parking on the zebra crossing ......
