...to my lovely Muslim neighbours, who always bring a selection of tasty dishes every Ramadan. Beef samosas, onion bhajis, spiced chickpeas, and beef biryani (with what tasted like prime roasting beef). All seasoned to perfection, all the flavour without that awful heat that take away restaurants often have that I really cannot tolerate (sensitive gob!).

Every year they do this, take food out to several of us in our little courtyard of 16 homes, and I know the lady cooks most of the day to prepare, while not eating a thing until sunset herself. No wonder her husband and children look so content, coming home to delicious meals like that that are made with such love and care. And they are the nicest family, too. Having read some of the horror stories on here about nightmare neighbours, it feels nice to share the other side, of good and kind folk.

Mmm makes my mouth water I miss my old neighbours who used to do this, curvy neighbour on one side is a lovely old lady but she doesn't cook much we're more likely to take her pieces of cake etc she is wonderful for taking in our parcels though and we share seedlings and water each others gardens of away or her arthritis plays up and the man the other side says nothing to anyone, could be worse!

I used to do home care for a family and each Ramadan they would provide us with the most incredible food when we went to visit!

It’s a tradition during Ramadan. When we were little my parents lived next door but one to our Aunty and our cousins would race to get the food we’d take over, turns out that the cousin who’d receive the food would eat it and not share!

Miss sharing food with neighbours during Ramadan, I don’t know our neighbours here well enough to do it.

Also we tend to buy lots of lamb at the end of Ramadan and give it to family and friends then donate some to the local homeless shelter.

I make beef biryani with tender steak meat, stewing meat wouldn’t cook with the rice.

And no it won’t be leftovers extra food is made during Ramadan specifically so what you are going to eat that evening is shared amongst family and friends.

Maybe it’s just as well I don’t do it, would hate my neighbours to think I’m offloading leftovers to them! (We never have leftovers DP who is not the same culture as me loves my cooking and cheerfully keeps eating till nothing’s left).

Very jealous! I thought marrying a part Indian man would guarantee me a lifetime of authentic Indian/Muslim food. Unfortunately my father in law is the worst cook in the world and has no idea how to make a curry.
His partners have made some fantastic things though and I really miss that.

It may have been stewing steak, but it really tasted more like roast beef. And yes, definitely cooked fresh, not leftovers. I help run a homeless outreach group, and the Muslim community also set up food kitchens for homeless people to share, similar to the Sikh sewas that take place around the country.

So often I see negative things posted about Muslim people, so to share what is the norm for our part of London is very satisfying. My apologies to those currently fasting/hungry for other reasons, I hope your meals are also delicious when you eat them
