Given that Labour can't even decide what a woman is, or follow their own bloody policies. Perhaps Maria Miller MP should change to their side..., why should anyone give a thought to 52% of the population after all?

For those who missed it, David Lewis did this to make a point;

blogs.spectator.co.uk/2018/05/meet-the-man-standing-to-be-a-labour-party-womens-officer/

Personally I'm of the opinion that a woman is an adult person of the female sex, but then I'm not a "woke" Brocialist tosser.

Things have now moved on to this, as Labour was VERY cross with him, as he clearly wasn't being Trans enough Confused. After all, they already have a male-born woman's officer (no surgical changes/hormones etc) who has come out as a lesbian - that's sincerity for you!

Dear Jezza, I wouldn't trust you and your pals to run the school fete.

If they have a male born womans officer who has come out as a lesbian, why hasn't anyone just said he's a straight male or is everyone too pc?😂😂😂

Sweet Because you are what you say you are, unless of course you are David Lewis. Hmm

How do they know that David doesn't have a sincerely held belief that he is a woman on Wednesdays?

If gender can only be defined by feelings and beliefs, then how can they know anyone is/or isn't a woman, or is saying they are sincerely or with alterior motive?

The emperor has no clothes!

Sweet Cheeks, everyone must have the right to "be themselves"

You can't say that to the person concerned, as you would be "misgendering" them, (yes, that is a thing now....)

I want to be a 6ft super model. I am one, I tell you. Pay me loads, and worship me!

Good for him. I have left the party because of this issue. i will probably still vote for them in a general election thiugh as we dont have a green candidate and i am not voting UKIP, lib dems or cons. Its such a mess

Can't women say they're men just on Wednesday? If not is that discrimination

Maybe he should have quoted Shon's definition of "woman"

This is the person, by the way, who Amnesty International invited to address the Woman Making History Festival.

Given their position on prostitution and sex-work as valid "career choices", for women, I can't say I am surprised. Disgusted, but not surprised.

yabu
not everyone will vote on this one issue at next election, people have their own issues that make them vote for a certain party. I for one would never vote Tory.

Maybe he should have quoted Shon's definition of "woman"

According to that definition he definitely qualifies.

Samcro

"one issue", namely Self-ID, that disproportionately affects women and children., and it's not that important?

Okaaay....

Poor David, having his identity questioned like this must be so triggering as it is literally violent :(

Stunning and brave, Dave mate.

Sam, I don't think op necessarily means that all labour voters will go out and vote Tory, more that the labour voters will abstain if they feel there is no one for them. = higher percentage of votes for Tory's, despite the same number of votes.

Asking 'what is a woman' is Sealioning

Being told to go on a women and gender studies course to find this out the answer.

Where you will be told the answer is: "whatever you want it to mean, and oh, you are sthsooo fabulous"

Exactly, beyondPink, and how many people actually vote at the best of times? People are leaving the Party. I often hear/see the phrase "politically homeless" used now

I feel confident it won't be Theresa and the Tories - it will be someone else and the Tories.
She hasn't coped well in the role imv. Those advisors she had at the last election were crazily out of touch, inexcusable.

This isn't the only reason I wouldn't vote Labour, they aren't doing themselves any favours at the moment. Next election I'll be in a new area so not sure who stands there.

I’m a lifelong labour voter but they will not be getting my vote again until they (or indeed if they) stop attempting to damage women’s rights, boot out the anti Semitic lot and get a healthy dose of reality to start working for the workers and people of this country again

I’ve never voted tory, but I will if they commit to opposing self ID and to retaining sex based exemptions in the equality act. While I’m opposed to their economic policies I genuinely feel this is a generational issue and it’s important enough to vote strategically on.

Halebeke425 · 23/05/2018 12:47

If David says he's a woman on Wednesdays that's good enough for me.

Shame on labour and their blatant transphobia.

Voting labour isn't really an option in my area so they'll do as well here as they always do - terribly! I'll reserve judgement on who gets my vote until the actual election comes around.

Report
LangCleg · 23/05/2018 12:47

Well, if part time cross dresser Philip/Pippa Bunce can be one of the FT's Top 50 Female Champions of Women in Business, I don't see why David can't become a Labour Party Women's Officer. It's not as though it's a full-time position, after all. Wednesdays should do it.

On a serious note - I'm anti self-ID but I don't think it matters where you stand on this issue with regards to Labour policy surrounding it. If David hadn't publicised this to the Spectator, his application and possible subsequent election to the post would have been defended to the hilt by party activists.

When things are being implemented with this level of rank incompetence and lack of detailed impact assessment, it is plain to your average voter that the Labour Party is not fit to run an entire country.

The tories started it

The SNP are trying to get there first & have already redefined woman in a bill about representation on public boards
A person who has the protected characteristic of gender reassignment...if, and only if, the person is living as a woman, and is proposing to undergo, is undergoing, or has undergone a process, or part of a process, for the purpose of becoming female becoming female ffs Angry

The greens are refering to men & non-men.

I have no one to vote for.

Handy link to the petition asking for the government to consult more widely about its gender self ID proposals
