AIBU?

To ban DH from coming to bed?

After a certain time that is. He has a habit of falling asleep on the sofa then waking in the early hours and coming to bed, usually waking me in the process.

This morning it was 4.20am and I’ve not been able to get back to sleep. I’m now bloody shattered! He does this most nights of the week and it’s so annoying.

WIBU to tell him he has to go to the spare room in future?

YANBU absolutely it's ok to ask him to go in the spare room at that time.

Not U at all. Why doesn't he automatically go to the spare room? Seems very selfish

Why don’t you wake him when you go to bed ? Or does he fall asleep after ?

I don’t think so at all. Mine often comes home very late and if I’m particularly tired I’ll ask if he can go straight to the spare room to not wake me. If someone is comfy enough to sleep til 0420 on a sofa than any spare room bed should suffice!

I go to bed quite early. I am a bad sleeper and struggle to get to sleep, so being woken always means I’m awake for an hour or more.
He is one of those people who refuses to go to bed “too early” but will be falling asleep in front of the TV.

100% he sleeps elsewhere. In fact I’d put a lock on my door.

Ideally there’d be a lock that set itself after a certain time (11pm for me) so you could give him the benefit of the doubt but not have to get up to lock it once you were sleepy.

Mine has an annoying trick of swearing he’s too full of beans to come up, then dead to the world 7 minutes later on the sofa. I’ve actually seen him do it in 3.

Yup. Stick his name on the door of the spare room! Also his own sleep quality on the sofa with tv blaring v bed will be shite. You need to talk to him about that.

Dh and I sleep separately now in part for this reason. I go to bed early and am a light sleeper. He is the opposite.

If you have a spare room it's not U at all.

Absolutely not unreasonable. My DH sleeps on the sofa when he's stayed up late playing Xbox or catching up on TV I don't like (sofa bed, we don't have a spare room). I prefer it, I can't hear him snoring if he's downstairs Grin

I've had to ask dh to do this due to bad sleep on my part. We don't have a spare room though.

Mine does this too. Apparently 2.30am is a fantastic time to tell me about the crap he's watching on YouTube. And then whinges at me for going to bed early as I'm shattered after a 12 hour shift. Its ok for him, he isn't working at the moment. 😕

Great I’m so glad to know IANBU.

He did stomp off to the spare room around 5.30 am because me tossing and turning and asking him to stop snoring was disturbing his sleep 🙄

We then had a bit of a row this morning as he came into the bedroom moaning that he was exhausted because of me! I ended up shouting at him and he did then apologise. I bet he does it again though.
