To want a rucksack and not feel like a student?

Is there such a thing? I really want a new rucksack but can’t find anything either remotely not school/student like or hideously expensive (I’m looking at you Mulberry)

Can anyone shed any light on a good one? My poor knackered hip can’t take a shoulder bag anymore.

I have a plain rucksack/laptop bag from IKEA...in the shop it looked black and a bit dull...I tool it out in the sunshine and it’s actually a lovely olive green.

I brought mine from amazon. It’s technically a changing bag but all that means is it has lots of extra pockets. It’s grey leather so - in my opinion - not student looking at all

I know they're not popular on here but I like Kipling bags. They are often cheaper on Amazon or they have shops at outlet centres.

I have a rucksack and also a crossbody bag, which can also be better than a shoulder bag for posture etc. I also like the cross body bag because you can take things out of it without having to take it off your back and it feels more secure on the tube etc as there's less chance of someone dipping into it without you noticing.

Don't bother with Accessorize. I bought a rucksack and a purse from there and the zips on both broke within days. I hadn't stuffed them full of things either. Naff.

I got a great one from TK Maxx too. Not a leather one but it has a fun non-studenty design.

I think more and more people are using them these days as we have laptops to carry and don’t want back/neck issues!

It's not at all student-y. TBH though after years of carrying fuck tonnes of weight in a stupid shoulder bag, I couldn't give a fuck what I look like... so much more comfortable and practical

I love the look of the eBags professional slim backpack for work.

I currently use a North Face one (which is slightly outdoorsy and active - but definitely a work bag) although DH has taken mine and given me his Wenger one (smaller, no integrated battery pack, much much smaller...di I mention smaller?!) with the intention of "saving my back" (or improving his carrying capacity!).

The eBags one comes in black, charcoal grey or a heathery purple. What's putting me off is the customs to ship it from the USA.

My DD got a leather look one from TKMaxx.

She got another one from River island. She slings her baby, so it works out more practical. Top Shop often do them, as well.

I've got a really nice brown faux-leather one from Mantaray at Debenhams. I think it was about £35.

The Wenger one is not too bad and can carry a reasonable amount, and has a separate laptop space at the back.

The North Face one has more capacity but has a slightly less professional feel to it (not dreadfully though - I work in a very staid office and it's fine).

The eBags one looks good, and smaller. There are various sizes too, all professional looking but ranging from small that might suit a female shape, to a weekender mother lode for papers and clothes as well as tech.

I suspect if you go to a shop that sells rucksacks as an efficient and comfortable way to carry a load, you can pick something up cheaply that will service you well. Or you could go and spend twice as much and buy something from a 'fashion' outlet and watch it fall apart.

I find the idea of a leather rucksack baffling, it must weigh an awful lot?

Go for leather / faux leather rather than a canvas material.

Unfortunately the backpack trend is currently mini backpacks, which aren’t particularly roomy or versatile for carrying a load of stuff/documents. This is probably why you keep coming across ‘studenty’ ones
