To ask what vitamins/supplements you take and why?

As per the title!
Am hoping to improve skin and hair with supplements, am considering trying to control hormonal breakouts with evening primrose. Has that actually worked for anyone?

More generally just interested to hear what you take and why

vit d3 (because most people are deficient)
magnesium in the evenings to prevent leg cramps.

I read a few years ago that most supplements are either useless or actively harmful, and as this meant I didn't have to buy them or take them, I never bothered again Grin Hope some more informed people turn up.

I have a suspicion that annandale is right but I do take iron supplements after I had a deficiency last year, and something from Boots called "Skin, Hair and Nails" which does seem to stop my useless nails from flaking and breaking, but only if I take it for a few weeks at a time and then stop, and then start it up again when my nails start to fall apart.

I take a supplement for vegans...cos I’m a vegan and the accepted medical advice, and advice of the vegan society is to take them.

Floradix for iron and vitamin D in the winter. I was very tired and did notice an improvement after a couple of months. I’m currently pg and the mw noted that my ferritin and haemoglobin levels were particularly good at my booking-in bloods so I think it has helped to build my reserves.

Intermittently I take a Berocca, usually when during cold season/if I feel anything coming on.

No idea if it helps give my immune system a boost but my colds/illnesses are generally very short lived 🤞🏻

A multivitamin with everything, but mostly for the b12, a huge number of people are deficient in b12 and don’t realise it’s a problem (it’s presented as only a concern for vegans which just isn’t the case)

But I eat a lot of live fermented foods, which is the best thing any of us can do for our bodies

D3, because it's daft not too. B12 and EPO (because it keeps me sane around time of the month).
I have 3 monthly blood tests and the supplements do 100% make a difference.

A hair and nail supplement, a frankincense supplement from Neals Yard, a glucosamine supplement for arthritis, and a rosehip supplement for menopause hot flushes.

Glucosamine, fish oïl with omega 3 and turmeric all for arthritis. Makes a massive difference to me. With them I can live a normal life, without them I am crippled with pain.

My job is hectic and someone times I dont get to eat wholesome meals so i currently take;

Morning
Ginko Biloba
Vit B complex

Evening
Cod liver - omega 3 etc
multi vitamin
slow release vit c
folic acid
evening primrose

Omega oils for heart/ brain and joints and Vit D because so many diseases are implicated in low levels. I’m outdoors a lot and when I was tested my level was adequate though not great so I just take it all year round.

Vitamin D3 (v high dosage as I’m deficient, I take both tablets and oral spray)
Magnesium supplement (to aid absorbability of D3)

I also take Centrum Women Multivitamin tablets as the single tablet dosage is fairly high.

I am deficient in vitamin d which leads to tiredness, dull mood etc along with impacting various other bodily functions. Super important for me. I’m not deficient in magnesium, but a good magnesium level will help absorb vitamin d better. The multivitamins are just for topping up my healthy diet/lifestyle.

A multi vitamin everyday then at various times:
Iron supplements for energy
Magnesium for restless legs
Apple cider vinegar for my hair
Vitamin b6 when I feel like rubbish
Cranberry when I feel like I’m getting ill

And not a vitamin as such but metatone (I think it’s called) when I can’t shift a cough or cold

Here goes... iron infusions and B12 shots every twelve weeks. 20,000iu vitamin D, folic acid and forcival (a multi vitamin) all of which are prescription. I can't absorb vitamins and minerals.

Magnesium /calcium supplement which helps with my ibs. Collagen which might iron out my wrinkles. Doubt they do but my hair and nails are great. I go and have a vit b injection every now and then if I feel drained.

Feroglobin actually felt a difference when I started it last year. Take it during period and for a week before.
Sometimes occasionally other days when I think of it.
Researched it first too. I recommend it to any woman xx

Gunpowder I'm a sucker for Neals Yard Frankincense Intense range which has worked miracles on my skin and it's part of that range.

I take D3 doctors orders
SuperB complex and folate for deficiency
L tryptophan for sleep
I have a poor appetite and felt tired all the time. I do feel better for taking these but I am never sure if it is a placebo effect

Vitamin D, Evening Primrose oil, Vegan Omega (rather than fish based), probiotics & sometimes B vitamins. Oh & milk thistle....

Cod liver oil & vit d
Multi vit with iron
Multi vit without iron on alternate days as iron gives me a headache if I take them daily.

I take them because I am old, arthritic symptoms, peri menopause with heavy periods, tiredness and fatigue.
I take them out of desperation to feel better myself. Kind of taking responsibility for my own health without having to bother the gp until/if I really need to.

In the current nhs chaos I feel strongly that I need to take responsibility as far as I am able to be well and stay well.

Magnesium and b12, as both were recommended to me for pms symptoms, plus zinc and vitamin D.
