AIBU?

To think that a 7 yo could wipe their own bum?

Just that really. Would you still be wiping your 7 year olds bum for them or would you be expecting them to know how to do it themselves at this age?

Expecting them to cope but willing help to tricky occasions.

I'd expect them to do it themselves (unless SN etc)

How do they manage at school? We had ours doing it himself in time for going to school at 4 and a half. Not always perfectly to be fair but almost.

I've no idea. I still do my 9 year old but he has SN.

Definitely should be able to do it themselves at 7.

My 6yo has been wiping her own bum successfully for quite some time now. No skid marks in her knickers, so must be doing a reasonable job.
Uses half a bloody loo roll though Hmm

My 5yo asks for help, she can do it herself but within an hour she's complaining it's itchy because it's not properly clean.

Unless they had SN then I would expect they could do this by 4. DS was doing it a few months after TT at 2.5, so before 3.

I'd like to say yes but judging by the state of my (very bright) 6 year olds pants I'm not sure!

Or we could not talk about children and toilets as this isn't really aibu?

When DD started school that's when I expected her to be able to wipe her own bum as no one was gonna do it for her

Definitely do it themselves. In fact, it'd feel gross to still be wiping - there's a seven year old at dds school who's taller than me! They're doing it themselves at school from 4, so same age at home.

Occasional help if required.

5 year old still being trained to do it himself. Can still find it tricky to reach an ideal standard.

Depends on how they fall on the Bristol Stool Chart Wink

My youngest is almost 6 and does it himself but uses half a loo roll and still doesn't do it that well. Still they need to try or they'll never learn.

Neither of mine ever poo at school though (eldest is 7).

My DM wiped my Dbro’s arse still he was ten. No SN, he was just a lazy twat. No idea why my DM went along with it either, she always babied him.

It depends on the child really. My four year old does it herself unless particularly messy and then will ask for help. She’s been wiping since three and a half. At seven I would guess she would be fine doing it herself but I’d help if need be. I’ve no experience of my own seven year old but I imagine they are still quite young really.

Expect it by 4 for school.

I still do my 7 year olds. She is fully capable of doing it herself if i'm not there, but will shout over and over at home for it to be done. She doesn't go at school but saves it for home which worries me. I'm too soft.

most children will wipe their own bums in school. not sure about home though. Never asked.

sn children would need more help.

Why OP? It depends on circumstances doesn't it?
